Updated with new post 14/5: ST170 with Fault Codes P1518 & P1519
As above scanned my ST with my Bluefin unit which showed the codes P1518 & P1519
P1518 - Intake Manifold Runner Control Malfunction (Stuck Open)
P1519 - Inlet Manifold Runner Control Malfunction (Stuck Closed)
My dad is a mechanic but is away at the mo so was hoping if anyone has come across this issue? Anything advice for a fix??
Seems like one fault cancels out the other, it can't be stuck open and closed at the same time surely!!
Thank You
Lewis

Try disconnecting the battery for half an hour, reconnect it then see if the fault comes back.
St170s do break the inlet runner control actuator (also called DSI clip), which in turn knackers the IMRC control box (silver box bolted to bulkhead behind inlet manifold). There is an uprated DSI clip from ford to replace the broken part, but you will also need to replace the IMRC control box.
How long have you owned the car? Is the engine management light on on the dash?

Ouch sounds pricey!!
Had the car for couple of months, bought it off my uncle. Light comes on the dash sporadically. I have heard about the DSI clip weakness.
Any ideas where it is?
Thanks matey

Its a bastard to get to! It sits on the side of the inlet manifold underneath the throttle body. Get a torch and have a peer down there, you will see a cable attached to a plastic arm. If its not connected, then the lug on the arm has snapped off. Ford have upgraded the arm to have a steel pin going through it to make it stronger, so if you need a new one, make sure it has the pin.
If it is broken, then i'll give you a bit more advice on how to fit a new one!

You can get the replacment clip seperate from the entire inlet manifold, dont let Ford try and flog you Ł600 of inlet manifold as you just need the clip if it is indeed broken.
A busted control unit can give itself away by clicking like mad when the ignition is turned on. If you remove you air box i makes it easier to see the DIS clip. If it looks intact then get a friend to turn on the ignition and watch the Clip, if the control unit if functioning correctly as soon as the ignition is tuned on it will pull the arm back and hold it there, then when the revs get up past 5000rpm it resets back to the original position to switch to the shorter runner. Obviously no need to rev it up you just need to see if its working.
Also try to gently move the flap with you hand, you will feel the flaps move inside the inlet manifold, there should be no sticking and it should be free to move, maybe yours is getting stuck.
ST170's eh, when they go wrong they go really wrong, i got the clutch and flywheel to replace on mine!! which is Ł1200 fitted haha...................eek

How will this be affecting performance/running?? How urgent is it to fix?

It will use a lot of fuel without it working properly!
When the DSI clip breaks, the cable that attaches to it pulls back too far, thus stripping the gears inside the silver box that is bolted to the bulkhead behind the inlet manifold. When this happens, it makes a loud knocking noise for the first 10 seconds or so of starting the car.
I bet the previous owner has unplugged the box!

Right DSI clip sorted, and for one day the car felt responsive low down the rev range again, made me realise what the DSI not working did to driveability.
Now it has reverted back to how it felt when the clip was broken, yet the clip is still good. It basically feels as if i have no power until 4/5 thousand revs then boom the 2nd intake kicks in.
Re scanned with Bluefin and there are no DTC fault codes at all.
Any ideas what it could be? I heard it could be the IMRC?

im having this exact problem with my st170, il check the 'DSI clip' tomorrow, can anyone tell me how much they are and if they're still available from ford??

Mine come up with p1518 stuck open. Clip was not broke. Took the box apart and had a dry connection here and there so I sorted them out with a soldering iron. Light went out. Lasted 2 months light is back on. 190Ł +vat from ford at trade Ł220+vat retail. For a new box. Why thank you ford!
