Default Rusty sump

Well found that my sump on the RS has rusted through, new one being fitted Friday, more money but the cars worth it.

there is a cure for that which will mean no more sump replaces
use a 1.8 zetec escort alloy one with the pick up just need to make a small adjustment to down pipe but should fit

or get a burton power super low baffled one !!!!

All done now parts were Ł230 and fitting was Ł80

Yes it will bolt on, but.......

The alloy upper sump (called 'lower crankcase' by Ford) does add stiffness to the lower block. It also incorporates the windage tray instead of the sheet metal one of the 'silvertop'. The RS one is also modified for the turbo oil drain and the cam cover cyclone separator drain.

The steel oil pan is the same for all Focus 1.8/2.0 engines (inc ST170 and RS), but slightly different to the 'blacktop' Mondeo, although that will fit a Focus install (not visa versa).

Why a steel pressing costs that much if its a common problem. Must be the same accountancy as the auxilary belt tensioner.
