Default MK1 Focus not starting

Hi all.

First post by a new member.

I have just bought a MK1 Focus(02)1.6 Zetec SE with genuine 61,000mls.

Fr the first 2 weeks it ran perfectly, no missing or rough tick over etc.

I parked up for 10 minutes, returned and it wouldn't start.
It turned over ok but wouldn't fire up.

I have checked the spark and that seems fine.

My next thought is fuel starvation.

I am going to replace the pump relay.next....is this something you'd recommend or are there any other tests/checks I should do first.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Lloyd

You need to get a code reader to see if any errors show.
Guessing and fitting parts can get expensive.

Coilpacks are a popular failure item.

Code reader first as said,
check if you are getting fuel first before changing relay. You should be able to hear the fuel pump priming when turning ignition on. This will rule out relay if you can hear it.

Hi

I just got a pal to listen under the tank and then turned ignition on.

He heard(for a split second)what he described as a buzzing/humming sound.

Does this sound like the pump priming?

Cheers

Yes it does sound like it's priming, you can normally hear this clearly sat inside the car though.

this would rule out pump relay and wiring, but your problem could still be a handful of other things.

Really need the codes reading with a decent reader

Just removed a couple of plugs that were quite sooty in appearance and there was a strong smell of fuel.....I'll replace plugs whilst they are out and try to get a mobile mechanic with a code reader.

Cheers for your help.
