Default mk1 focus known faults?

Just bought a 1.6 zetec mk1 focus 51 plate,

Its got full service history, just needs the cambelt doing as its now 10yrs old and the water pump doing.

Is there any known faults to look out for?
Seen that the ECU can cause a couple of problems, but anything else.

Thanks

Lou

If you go to sell it and put your spare in key with the main key and shut the door it will lock and not let you take it to sell it

Well thats what happened to me, only did it that once!

Brilliant cars that are totally reliable, they don't really have any common issues, the anti-roll bar links seem to cause some people problems, keep an eye on the back arches and also in the corner of the door mirrors as rust can start here.

Ford's reccomendation for a cambelt change is 100K, but it should in practice be done earlier than this, make sure you get tensioner renewed as well.

The only reason the car locks itself is if you don't get in within 30 seconds of opening.

Never heard of or experienced ECU troubles at all.

my dad had a 51 reg focus 1.6 16v. It was a cracking car. The only things that went wrong was water getting into the passenger foot well cause of the air con pollen filter seal spliting. I replaced the seal and applyed some sylicone on the plastic panel where the wiper arms are. The other fault was the live electrical connection on the fuel pump corroded away and caused the car not to run. It cost just short of 300 quid for a new one. There where plenty on ebay which were cheaper. I think the mk1 focus is one of the best cars ford have ever built.
