Default Ford 6000 to 7000 Radio

Hi everyone.

i've got a mk1 Focus Ghia, and i'm having a problem installing a Ford 7000 radio to replace the 6000CD i already have (I have a cd changer, so I don't need 7 cd's!)

My problem is that the steering wheel control connector on the back of the radio is smaller on the 7000 than it is on the 6000.

My question is, is the 7000 compatible with the steering wheel control on a mk1 Focus? and, if it is, how do I wire it up to the 7000 radio?

Thanks in advance for your help

Should be straight swap but I don't see the point in the change? Are you going to use tapes? Why not get rid of the external changer and fit a 6006E in the dash with the build in changer? Or I belive there was a navigation system fitte din the MK2 and early mk3 mondeos that should fit wiht a little modification, belive it's called the 9000VNR?

Thanks for the reply.
It is a straight swap, apart from the steering wheel control cable.
The car came with the 6000 radio, and the steering wheel control connector is the same length as the power and speaker connectors. On the 7000 radio, the connector is half this size.
I want to use the 7000 because I use a tape adaptor to play my iPod through the car.

Why not just get a 5000 RDS EON instead?
Did you know you can get special contors that you can plug your iPod into and plug into the CD autochanger slot so you can control your iPod via the stereo? So the stereo thinks the iPod is a CD autochagenger. I have one in my Focus, but I have a Sony radio but it's the same principal with the Ford radio?

Probably the same amount you'd spend on a new radio anyway?

Just realised we're both from bridgend

I looked into that, but the fittings on the steering wheel are completely different
