Default S1 help please . . .

Hi peeps. While S1 is in hibernation a friend of mine said he will fit his surplus Piper 285t cam into it. She is running 14 psi and has a 185bhp chip and was recently set up at MSD. Runs sweet as a nut and never misses a beat. Car has standard intercooler. Would any additional mods be required once fitted ? Also, with the chip, will it have the standard turbo or will it have been changed ? cheeRS in advance.

Don't do it, leave it how it is

All the people ditching Piper cams for standard cams seems to be the right choice right now

piper cams seem to be made of jelly

If you want power improvement get a better intercooler, the standard item is wank, you will also probably find that when you remove it the sides will be blown out slightly!

As for cam, the standard cam is fine for what your car is running why change it when its running OK.

i would recommend a pro alloy intercooler, i have a front mounted one ,
but if your not wanting to play with some of the front end (cutting out of some)
then just get a standard replacement, they are 16mm thicker IIRC

ive got a full size grs makes a hell of a lot of difference as for cam im goin standard with my new head

It's the old "need a bit more power" thing i'm afraid. A few people say leave the original cam in. What's wrong with putting a different one in for more power ? Does it harm the engine's life in any way ? If i don't put a cam in, what are the options for a bit more power without a lot of expense ? Reason i was going for a cam is that apart from k&n, exhaust and d/v, engine looks standard and wanted to keep it that way as car has original bodywork and is virtually un-messed with so was wanting to keep the appearance the same but with more perfomance.

dry, standard cams are said to last 60k, so there is chance
that it has already been replaced, your car done 85k or so aint it?
i looked at your clocks one day and seem to remember it being round that
figure.

why not?
I struggle at 15psi, let alone more than that
Go for a GRS or other prooven or tested product, Pro Alloy are just not cut out for RST applications, Cossie's have no issues - just don't do it on an RST

Get the K&N off for a start and std airbox back on, with cut away front.

New std cam or Newman cam if anything. . IMO only heard good about them.

what ACT's do you see? During summer months I was seeing 60+degrees before I hit 20psi

I run 25psi peak 22psi held

My GRS never once had a problem, NEVER

The extra BHP you will get with a cam is hardly worth worrying about!!

If you want a guaranteed increase in power, get a better intercooler, if your only planning on keeping the car at 15psi ( stage 1) then most after market intercoolers will be fine, its only when you start getting higher than 1 bar you need a more efficient cooler.
