Default my situation... what should i do?

right i know that i need a new rad and fan, as my current one is not bolted in (neither is the intercooler or fan), i also only have std intercooler, so i might as well upgrade that at the same time! also want to put samco boost hoses in there

also i need to change the throttle, leads and plugs (as when i put my pedal to the floor and the turbo kicks in the revs die on me for a split second then pick up again, i'm 99% sure this is due to the plugs/leads/throttle as a mechanic who looked at the car the other day told me they needed changing before its MOT as if they are not it will also fail on emissions - as well as losing power/accel. which it is!)

with the first job i've given myself 2 options, the economical option (which i'm swaying towards right now) which is replace the rad and fan and buy a small 2nd-hand pace intercooler, which would set me back about £250-300 plus getting it all fitted, which i can just about afford, or go for the performance option which is replacing the rad and buying a new pro-alloy front mount twin fan intercooler (unless i can find 1 2nd-hand) which will set me back about £550-600 plus fitting, my question is... is it really worth spending almoast double on the larger front mount intercooler? how big is the difference likely to be in performance?

for the 2nd job, is it worth gettin upgraded plugs and leads (like them ION plugs and k1 leads?) or are they just marketing gimmicks? and should i just go with regular ford plugs/leads?

thanks in advance

if you can afford to get a bigger intercooler , and standard ford leads , or if you really must go for gimmicks get the ION ripspeed ripoff ones

oh yeah, i changed the plugs and leads and i'm still getting poor throttle response, when i floor the gas the car just dosen't pick up, esp in the high revs, it gets to about 4000-5000 RPM, then normally it would fly up in an instant and whoooosh! but no, it just seems to hang there and i don't get a very good boost, no real whoosh at all! i'm thinking (or more like hoping) it is due to the throttle, or maybe the distributor cap? (as i've been told they both need changing too), anything else that it could be? its only over the past couple of days i've noticed that the car just dosen't seem to pick up power like it should be

Now I have stopped looking at the picture, I'll comment.

The double standard size Pace is hardly any better than the standard cooler so would be a waste of money. The ONLY intercoolers to go for are the full frontal ones but this also means you need a decent rad and cooling fan as the cooler blocks the flow slightly.

Charge coolers are ok for short burst of acceleration but any prolonged acceleration will cause the water to become heated and once you have warm water, it takes ags for it to cool down. So if you just like a short burst down a by pass then it's ok but if you fancy a bit of a thrash on track, it will soon start to lose power.

People on here have done a lot of messing around with different intercoolers and the conclusion has always ended up that large front mount intercoolers are the best option to go for.

i agree with above, all the front mount mount coolers do the same, people will give you they're opinions and they will all differ! i personally use a GRS front mount and the only reason i had to modify my bumper was to keep the spotlights on!! and even then you cant notice it. my ACT NEVER goes above 34.

it sounds like you have a boost problem more than plugs, leads etc. if its losing boost you will have no power! which could be down to a weak actuator. have you checked what boost it is producing?
