its an air filter , keep the standard box and make a feed up for it . they might all look different but they all do the same thing . the difference is minimal

if i was buying a new filter i would go ram air.....

im using a piperx on mine right off the turbo, as i have no k jetronic to worry about , but i honestly cant see that any one filter gives a significant improvement over another of the same design

Just do your own thing! convince yourself that the ££'s your spending 'do make a difference' to your power.
Oh!!! and see if you sit really really still, whilst booting it, you may 'just' feel the increase in power.

I remember a small test done on a RR. .
cone filter equiped car, made X amount bhp on a run...
same car with cone filter. . but the cone covered in a cold air feed of its own. . made +15bhp.......
and the fans on this RR were probably one of the if not THE best set ups around
std ford airbox and filter for me, albeit the airbox modified slightly

i use that pro ramair filter on mine, just because its fits perfectly in my morrette headlamp hole!, and that piece on silcon pipe angles it towards the front of the car, mine makes a very loud sucking noise!
i had the pipercross one before on top of the metering unit, but its to close to the turbo and sucks in hot air, hence why mines tucked away in the headlamp, and also ive heatwrap foiled the silicon pipe with the filter to protect it a bit more

Its really down to what the owner wants coz you will never get a true answer to what is best.
Every tuner is going to tell you a different story about air filter/airbox.

Ive had a filter before, rather keep the box imo, never noticed a difference but im sure a filter not in the box would suck up all that lovely engine bay heat

One thing i dont understand is why you need a cold feed to the filter in turbo cars. Once the air enters the turbo from the filter doesnt the air get hot anyway from the turbo being so hot. I dont know is this true or does a cold feed help

any colder air helps surely, if the airs cooler on entry, by the time it goes through the turbo it must be slightly cooler on outlet, if u see air filter tests on rst's using airboxes etc they always recommend a cold air feed to the airbox, or cutting the front of it out

interesting!
cold air+petrol=excellent firing,
warm air +petrol=better atomising,
the cooler the air ,the more dense the mixture,me thinks a cool air flow is in order+a heat sheild for my k+n
juss like when you drive, the warm air is pushed out of the bay through the bonnet slats,if you block em for your k+n rain protection, you should have a seperate air feed to compensate, complete with its own water drain!,so,if you place your pipe low down, the rain splashes will drip away, but if you go through a puddle youll drink the water in and hydraulic your engine
,
therefore,my thesus on the matter is,
wear wot skirt you like,as long as you know the limits of your intentions

i run a PiperX Vector cone...had a Ram Air one in there first which was god knows howmany years old...noticed a bit of difference with noise but thats it...not going to try standard air box as im going EFI any way...
however
would it make a considerable difference if you boxed off the cone air filter and had its own seperate cold air feed pipe? so not heat soak from the engine?
