Default Delayed starting !!

Hi,

Today when I went to start my car (S2 erst) I turned the key and nothing happened for nearly 10 seconds !!!!! It then started as usual, what could be causing this delay ?

Cheers, Duncan

Mine does it mate, sometimes fires on first crank like, but say go to shop only a short journey, jump in car 10-15 secs or cranking before it goes. God knows why it does i,t taken it to a garage and they dont know why either

I had a similar problem (not even cranking happened for a couple of seconds). It was cured by runnning the "signal" to the starter through a relay. Not enough voltage was reaching the solenoid of the starter.

This was my first thoughts - lazy /overheated starter or even slightly low battery

yeah its the first time it delayed for such a long time, it has done it before a few times but there was only about 2-3 seconds gap between turning the key and the car cranking. I think it only happens when the car is cold or has been left for a little while, when its hot its usually fine.

I wouldn't of thought it was the starter, its not as if it cranks for ages and then starts, it fires up almost instantly.............after the pause !!

any ideas ?

Duncan

Have you measured the voltage that reaches the solenoid of the starter when you try to crank. I got only 8V or something when I had this problem.

if its the original starter motor then thats more than likely the problem,
ive had the same problem with both my previous and present RS Turbos,
changed the starter and that sorted it.
