Default getting an urge for a escot rs turbo

As the cossie is up for sale to free up some cash was thinking about a rs turbo so I could stay in the scene and their cheap. But I've never driven one, been in one or know anything about them.

Would I be bored going from stage 1 cossie to a rs turbo (the stage one feels slow as anything now)

Cheers for your imput

you wont save any money, you'll just pour money into it. Plus it will be a massive let down IMO, no power steering, wont drive as nice and probably slower.

better off keeping the cosworth & making it stage 3

I had my '89 S2 in '98 and an S1 after that, the S2 I crashed and during repair the front panel was rotten back then! Mine was just Bayjoo chipped by Harvey (16psi) , it went well but not a patch on a St1 Cossie. It also used to eat gearboxes, think I had about 8 (standard ones) in less than 2 yrs! Nothing to do with my driving *cough*

Go for it. I've loved all my RS Turbo's over the years, I've had all of them at one point or another. Don't expect it to feel refined though

My advice would be just check everywhere for rust!

You might be a bit let down by the escort turbo compared to the saff.

Depends what turbo its running. When mine comes in (t34) you'll struggle to hold it straight and only boosting 12psi

Is that because the chasis will fall apart due to rust (not the mega amount of torque) lol

Personally I always liked the Escort RS over the saffs, bit more gokart feeling. Get a well sorted solid one and it will be a hoot.

Plus, if you get one that isn't pushed to the limits then it wont be as likely to break and if you dont like it, you can sell it on having scratched the itch without seeing much if anything in loss of cash.

I would go S2, S1's are just too much money for a decent one, average S1 money will get you a gem of an S2 or Fiesta RS.

get a good one and enjoy it for what it is. they are dog slow as std though. with a decent turbo and some boost they go well without costing a fortune, providing the engine is a good one. be prepared to change the gearbox tho. mine exploded yesterday

This evo 4 is 3500 and 320 bhp so I would say 2.5k for a rs escort??

IMHO you will get only a very RST for 2.5k and probably work required to go with it..

5.5K bought me mine in April ... and not a spot of rust in sight !

Can't compare an evo to an rst. Ask yourself can you afford double insurance and 15mpg. I've had a few of the 4s and they are awesome,if he ain't got proof of 320 he's just talking jap talk. If you view one listen for rear doffs creaking around corners, any lights on the dash, a horrid noise when change gear. Don't be fooled by some dreamers bhp guess and saying its got a 6 engine fitted all bs! And realise if an rs breaks well most parts are cheap if the evo breaks it'll probably cost more to fix than you paid for the car. Sensible advise just becaus its faster and reasonably priced doesn't mean you should buy it. I'd have another any day but running costs don't bother me.

Here's a few of mine..

I've always wanted a Escort RST (im 37 now!), and over the years I have had various fast Hondas, 2x Mk2 Golf GTI's, Hot citroens etc.

Hondas were fast and literally NEVER went wrong, that was cool.
Mk2 Golf Gti's always went wrong and they didn't have any character for me when driving so both were sold on quick.
Citroens were made of cheese and disappointment, they didn't stay with me long.

My Escort RST was bought cheap last October, it broke down the 3rd day, then blew its radiator, a week after having a set up it blew its head gasket. Its in the workshop now having this fixed.
BUT it is a laugh to drive, is an icon of my younger years and if it didn't have the character its has it would have been sold already.

Agree with the above, an acquired taste, but spend more than I did, get a good one and enjoy.

Stu

Same with anything, don't scrimp on buying one, it'll only bite you in the ass later when it shits itself.
There's a tidy looking Red FRST on here for £3.2k...

Rs turbo with a "genuine" 200bhp and decent suspension and stoppers is good fun, as fast as the stage 1 cossie in my eyes

A lot of people say their car is 200bhp due to spec and not proof

If you buy an mfi car always account for £150 for a tune up before driving it in anger and not one I've brought over the years has been set up to their best, so I would advise it as a precaution,

Check cambelt, water pump, ignition parts as people think they last for ever with these cars lol

I would go looking with the mind set you want condition over spec and know in your mind to give it a nice service and tune up

Otherwise I love them, and have sold 400/500bhp cosworths and ended up in one again

get a evo and sod off the forum! Ive had cosi's and rst last 10 years, IMO i prefer a rst to drive about in, but the pull of a cosi is better, my rst was 180 horse, and without doubt it was quicker too 80/90mph then my stage 1 cosi. ive now got a mild stage 3 cosi, and theirs no comparison now, stage3 is so much stronger then stage 1. just keep it luke you got greys etc, if anythink take full cage out, and you will get your kiddy seat back in. and sell me your wheels for 500 notes lmao

they go well with 200hp ish. tbh I reckon a 200hp rst makes for a quick road car if the handling/brakes are up to it. the big power rst's (1600 cvh) will probably be laggy and a hanful when it comes to traction. I love the sound, power delivery (stage 3 t3) and how chuckable it is and the fact a lot of youngsters mistake it for a a base model
