Default Rs turbo s1 starting fault

Evening all

am new to this so please bear with me i have just brought over the last week a 1985 rs turbo s1 as a non runner. Over the past couple of days i've been working through it and have found that the fuel pump was dead and the spark plugs look a little worse for wear so i ordered and replaced these. There is now fuel up to the filter and to the fuel distribution valve at the bottom but not from the injector ports out the top, so i've have striped this away from the air flow box and found that the needle was sticking so soaked it over night in carb cleaner. I now have refitted this back to the car with a new fuel filter and some injector cleaner in the fuel tank! When starting it up for the first time after this it tried to run but had a bit of a misfire then would not run i looked back at the engine and noticed that the new fuel filter had split round the seam and pushed the bottom of the filter out. Could this be back pressure from blocked injectors or is it something more deep??? there was a lot of rust particles that came out the old filter so naturally think its a blockage.................

cheers to who ever can assist
