Default Australian owned Series 2 idles but wont drive! HELP :'0(

Hey - thanks for looking,

I have a 1986 S2 that I bought here in Australia, its had an EFi conversion, runs on adaptronic management and I had it set up at EFi performance dyno about 2 weeks ago. Before it went for its dyno tune it had a problem that I could only describe as a 'misfire' - when you tried to drive it it would just stall - it also sounds like its backfiring through the inlet side of things ( I could be mistaken but thats what it sounds like ). I got it back from the dyno and it drove brilliantly, pulled really well through the gears and the 'misfiring' was gone. Now here we are a little over a week after it was tuned and its worse than ever! It will start and sit and tick over without too much drama, but if you try and rev the engine or drive it, it just pops and bangs and conks out! Now I dont know too much about these cars other than I love them and I believe mine is one of only 2 S2s out here in Oz, needless to say there isnt a whole heap of knowledge about them anywhere here - can anybody point me in the right direction in getting it running? I have some limited spares (dizzy cap, rotor arms etc.). Any help or suggestions would be really gratefully received.

Craig.

I had a similar issue with my Ka RST. It would rev ok-ish until boost started building and then hold back and 'miss' and cut out. I have a feeling my timing may have jumped a tooth, but this i realise after having taken it to peices and had a full rebuild etc etc

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. So today Ive whipped the plugs out and they all look good, checked that the cambelt hasnt jumped a tooth and that seems fine, checked voltage at the fuel pump and thats where it should be, made sure everything is connected and checked as many earths as I could find. Ive checked all hoses are fastened tight etc. The car now starts, runs and drives until it hits boost then the power drops away abruptly and in a very scary fashion! So I've parked it up as I'm out of ideas, has anyone ever seen this happen to their car? Thanks Craig

Is it possible to connect a laptop to you ECU to check live values (sensors, iginition table, fuel amount, afr etc.)?

ive seen 3 cvh turbo engines in the last year that the timing belt was a tooth or two out causing the same problem

ive seen them with all the valves bent and made a simular problem but it would not idle if that was the cause so at least i can say in my experience it doesnt sound internal, but electrical

you say you converted to efi but then mention a dizzy cap? wouldnt it be fitted with a coilpack? does sound like a coilpack/ incorrect firing order or something along those lines.

ive also experienced a alternator electrical drain that would cause a misfire on boost but you say its as soon as you rev it?

OK, I have my serial lead and can link my pc up to the ecu and as exciting as that is I'm wondering what I would need to post on here to help understand whats going on with my car :0/ Any suggestions as to what needs to be seen will be gratefully received!
