My new engine

Had to take everything off to lift it (2 man lift into car, only me to get it out!)
Removed flywheel and was greeted with

Grey oil???? Catastrophic hg failure or just condensation because its been sat couple months in a garage??? Il take some more pic today as i get sortted...

How much can i expect to pay to have my turbo refurb'd?
Which part manufacturers do you recomend and which have not been very good,
Where can i get suspension bolts from? Fronts, securing bolts??? Gonna tell me its a forty quider from ford arnt ya!! Lol
Whats involved in a mk4 pas conversion?? What rack is used? Where does pump mount?
This has pas it was fitted to mk5
What does the cvh alternator bracket look like??
Is this a zetec mount? Can see pas pump at top

Grabbed a bargain on ebay this week,

Renew piston rings, rehone cylinders.
Lightened,balanced crank & flywheel.

What does the head face look like? around the water galleries, i suspect this will be the area to be most concerned about.

Check out YWKparts http://ywkparts.co.uk/ for any suspension etc bolts you need. Good luck with your new project!

That site was spot on, 35quid for both sides...
Had a look at the head
No obvious signs of damage

Although one of valves is open and rest are closed??
Not the best pic but

I releases cambelt tensioner slowly and the cam didnt move so wether its just stuck from being sat a while
Have to see what shop says when it goes in for pressure check etc...
Havnt dared open up the bottom end yet lol god knows what i'l find

Would this cause it to over fuel? The guy said last time it was running it was overfuelling but unsure if it was the coolant temp sensor not picking up
Theres also no noticable damage to the pistons if it had of been stuck open.. See what shop say when they get it

Did u not pull the dip stick b4 u bought it or look under the oil cap? I'd say that engine ran a good while with the gasket blown 2 get that much gunk thru the engine! If it were me I'd get the sump off and give it a dam good clean!

I did, it wouldnt of mattered if i hadnt.. I was always going to strip it down and fully rebuild it. No point buying a "good runner" for Ł400 and only having the sellers word for it, 100miles later bang!! Least i kno when this goes in it'l be spot on.. Ł350 for everything lets face it, was worth a punt anyday..

Full engine, both complete manifolds, t3 turbo, actuator, bailey dumpvalve, intercooler, all pipe work, metering unit, switl pot, filter, all pipework, both ecu's, engine loom (been cut at bulkhead to fit a mk5) and whatever else iv missed... Basically complete set-up
Ł350 for the lot.. I saw a fiesta rst engine on ebay for 400 and that needed everything to make it run
I need a full loom for my car anyways as mine was stolen so an rs loom and a rebuild an im away

Fair play mate, yeah that's a good deal like! I bought a frst a few yrs back with a fully rebuilt engine which I took the head off 2 hav a lookie of as it was a STD 1.6 block ie no oil return, they had put it in thru the sump, engine looked spot on all nice and clean so I sold it with the head off so the buyer could c what he was getting I then popped the head back on fired it up so he could hear it running and take if 4 a spin, he bought it pop'd it in his car and the bottom end fell out of it felt bad like! Helped him rebuild it tho, so totally know where ur coming from loon,

I thought that was a bit steap really. One went on eBay last week for Ł220 fully running. No loom but I think that sold for hardly anything anyway.

What you gonna do to it?

still not sure? Thats why i'm here have a browse around see what can be done. Find the common mods to unleash more power and find the best ways of keeping it tip top..
At the moment its a standard rebuild with some stronger uprated parts but plans soon change so never quite sure!!

ARP rod bolts
Newman cam
Double valve springs
solid lifters

Have you got that cam to turn yet to see if that valve is bent? Any marks on the corrolating piston?

I was told by power engineering that the standard cam is the best part untill you go over 200bhp is this a project weekend drive about or a everyday car you want to use?

Its kind of both!! I want to use whenever i can, massive power isnt a thing for me just enough to make ya smile... I wanna be able to attend a meet and not have to worry about it killing itself on the way but want a nice spec list and most of all looking good no oil patches no rough running
150-180bhp would be nice but as i say i wanna keep it reliable so if the feeling gets me and the weathers half decent i can take it out

Not spun the cam yet.. Got a blacktop engine in bits in kitchen thats sold now goes on saturday so should hopefully start work in the rs then

Had a look this norning, cam spins and valves are opening as they should.
Stripped bottom end lol wish i'd never bothered..
Crank shell #3

Crank itself

Think il be looking for a breaking cvh get another rather than trying to resue it!!
Piston question, are they suposed to be stamped with postion location?? Ie 1,2,3and4?
Mine are!! Also have a small "R" engraved on rod caps??

And the ends seem rather smooth, like theyv been ground/sanded down?

You ready to gasp and probably have a chuckle....
What was in the sump?? Along with water mixed oil also foud
Shrapnel presuming its the remains if the shell!!

Cnt say I'm excited about taking block yo be re-honed can feel sime some scores on cylinders 2and 3 not massive just when running finger nail around can just feel it...

I was planning to use my engine from my first S1 in my present one thinking it was ok when i last used it 3 years previously .

Then i decided to have it rebuilt with wossner pistons and pec rods . When i took it to the engine builder he said show me the piece of SCRAP then ..... I thought it was ok just needed a rebore etc but when he showed me the crank and shells and the state of the bores i was so glad id decided to have it rebuilt . It looked alot like yours did .

IMO get it rebuilt for piece of mind as you never can tell what you've bought unless you know exactly what has been done to it prior to purchase . IE receipts for rebuilt or plenty of service history to back up miles on the engine etc

I'm gonna keep this engine.. Iv wanted one from being 15yo I'm now 30 so I will make it good. Just thought rather than paying to get crank re-ground i could get another decent one and some new shells??
If the cylinders need boring it's just oversized pistons nd rings bit more capacity!!!
Worst thing is i'v just sold a zetec engine, could of just gone zvh
I wanted to put it together myself but now thinking let shop build the bottom end. Least as you say I know it's ok and within spec. Really wanted a "built not bought" sticker supose I'v done all the body work, welding etc so still get away with it!!

hello mate

ive a fiesta rs turbo engine sitting in the garage

better bottom end than series 2

100 quid if you need a bottom end and you can even strip the sump off before you buy
if you need another

Theres not many on here that can say they actually built their own engine though . I knew i wanted my engine right so i gave it to the proffesionals to build . Its a no brainer really , you can still fit it yourself and get it running

IMO the cars still built by you you just have had the engine done right by people that do this everyday
