Smile Possible oil pressure problem (Burton's HP Pump)

Hello,

I have just rebuilt my engine and I have gone for a efi managment. Only the head is from a FRST, the rest is from my ERST S2.

When I fired up it from first time I noticed that the oil level did not decrease and I heard a knocking noise on top of the engine that increase with revs.

I am going to fit my old oil pressure gauge to measure if the pressure is enought.

The oil pump fitted is from Burton (high pressure).

Lots of people have reported problems with these pumps, but could it be that I did not fit it properly?

In case of a defect item could I send the pump back and ask for a refund after half year that I bought it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Ive build two engines with them oil pumps and they seemed to be ok mate. is your oil pick up pipe ok ie not bent so not picking up oil?
People have said on here that they have had problems with them but dont think they have on first start up

I am going to check it, so problems do not appear normally when they are new?

You have to prime the pump before the first start up, you need to spin it over without any plugs in it for ages until the pressure light goes out.
If you just fitted a new pump and started it up, you've probably destroyed something

I have checked that the oil rises in the pipe connecting the engine and turbo, so I think that the pump works correctly.

Why my engine sounds like it was a diesel engine? The "knocking" increases with revs.

Did you fit new lifters? Sometimes they take a while to bed in and will make a tapping noise

Yes I did. I have started the engine few times (around half hour in totally). It is enough time?

I want to fit the old lifters to compare.

dont swap lifters about, they will mince the cam. check oil pressure with gauge, if low then you will need to strip the engine

Epsilon, the tappets take ages to fill with oil and usually only once the oil has got warm. As long as you've got good oil pressure then they will fill up and quieten down. If you have fitted a new cam and lifters then you should have started the engine and run it at 2000rpm for 20 minutes to bed the cam and lifters together to cut down on premature wear.

Fit an oil pressure gauge and start it up. Run it at 2000 rpm for 20 minutes but keep your eyes on both the oil pressure gauge and the water temperature gauge.

I'm not sure how that question applies to my post to be honest.

Low oil pressure will cause the light to flicker.

Not tappets needing filled then was my point. Either the oil pump or engine is knackered as its a cvh. The solution is to put a better engine in there

Hi,
The oil pressure is around 5.5 bars at idle speed when the engine is cold.
The noises could be caused by a bad set up of the CO2 potenciometer? I believe that the car produces too much smoke from the exhaust pipe. The rear part of the car was near a wall and in 2 or 3 minutes it generated an smoke cloud.

The CO mixture might need adjustment but won't cause noise. If you haven't run the engine up to temperature then your tappets are still empty. You MUST run it until the engine is hot. Even then they can take a while to fill up and need the car running in excess of an hour, or taking for a drive.

When I rebuilt my engine with a new cam/lifters etc. Whilst running it in for 20 minutes it was a fair while into it until it started to quiet down.
It is a very un-nerving sound though.

In my case the noise is like a "hammer noise". It is loud sound and increase with revs. I can not appreciate if it comes from head or from bottom. I am worried. I will remove the rocket cover and see if the oil arrives correctly to the head.
