S2 overboosting!!
I know it would have been delt with before but i bought a S2 project, it was non running, i have it running now( used another metering head ).
The amal valve pipes were all missing so ive got them connected back to
the wastegate, turbo and the airbox,
Took it a run and its way overboosting i didnt floor it but even half throttle it will boost to at least 25psi( thats as high as my gauge goes) then drops back to 15 or so.
what would be causing it?

maybe it has another boost control? and with you plugging in the amal valve it goes way higher? just a suggestion, could also be that the actuator is wound up alot and that it was running the desired boost level without any other boost control?

i dont know what boost it should run, i got it as it is, it has a spare ecu with should i try it on? there is nothing on the one fitted to say its chipped

well because you dont know what boost pressure it should be running on i suggest you take it for a setup. i'm sure alot of people would say the same.
Did you ask the previous owner ? maybe he knows what boost it was running on before you bought it?

you might be best taking it to have a good tune/set-up at a good company or give one a call at least if there any good the will try and point you in the right direction.
do you know what the actuator was set to?
but if you unplug amal valve and it will give you half the boost.
what pipe did you us for the amal valve, because if the inside diameter is to small this will cause it to over boost.
and has it got the correct jets in the amal valve as this will all so cause it to over boost.

i know i should get a set up done but theres no where near me that can do one( i dont think, i live on an island)
pipe i used is fuel hose and is plenty big,
and jet size dont know.
all a bit unhelpful to you all
its been though a few owners since it last ran so ive no idea who would know

Easiest setup you could do is connect actuator onto the turbo compressor via a vacuum hose, loosen the 11mm nut on the actuator, unhook it from the turbo and note tension, did it spring off or was it just fairly slack? Adjust the actuator rod until it just needs pulled slightly and hooked back onto the wastegate...standard boost is 7psi, standard boos tlimit is 10psi, your ECU must be chipped as it exceeded 10psi and didn't hit the boost limiter as it rose to 25psi and dropped to 15.
if you want the standard amal valve setup, makesure all the hoses are in the right order, and do as I said above with the actuator, there is no real BENEFIT of running the amal valve but if it works then theres certainly no harm in using it.

whats the alternative to the amal valve set up?
gotta say tho running that much boost gives some awesome chatter
however i know it'll blow the engine

alternative is as said, straight pipe from actuator - compressor housing nipple, OR Bleed valve, but you cannot lower boost with a bleed valve only raise...
DON'T buy an electronic boost controller, waste of money...
Get it down to AVA next time you're on mainland

simply fit one inline if you havent got one,between turbo and actuator(on your fuel hose you used.)
id set it at about 12 psi and see if it drives ok,take it easy as your fueling needs to be matched to your boost etc and if it feels like its holding back then back off the boost.
if it drives ok then tweak it a bit till your happy.
i run 18psi on mfi with no probs mate
but if your unsure what your doing,then run something like 8 or 10 psi till you can get somebody to set it up

yeah i got a bleed valve from MS Developments, i give things ago tomorrow and try and get the boost down too 10psi.

He may still need to slacken the actuator....you can't lower the boost with a bleed valve, unless it's piped up wrong or the amal valve is missing it's jets then the actuators too tight!
Id run standard boost until you get it set up, as you don't know if the fuel will be correct on boost....

it allows you to fine tune your boost,with mine i can turn it down to almost sod all and up to over 25
agreed you need to set the correct preload on your actuator too,so you have to stretch the actuator rod about 3 or 4mm to get it on.

had a look today, amal is piped correctly so i just unplugged it
its now running 15 psi, bit high yet maybe?
but it seems ok, running smooth etc so think i'll try it at that untill i can get off the island and get it set up proper

No, you have miss-understood what I have explained.
if you have your actuator set to 20 psi, and you fit a bleed valve...you cannot lower the boost below 20psi...as it is a BLEED, so even fully closed you will have minumum 20psi.

just get rid of amal
feed the hose from the amal back io to the turbo itself. u then block the hose into the fuel meter . In took mines out wen i first got my rs , just as pain,
