Default electronic boost controllers on mfi?

im kinda to the point now where im bolting all the final pieces to the car, and need to decide on boost control

would an electronic boost controller be completely pointless on mfi due to not being able to use most features? or would it be a much safer bet than using a bleed valve set up?

was kind of thinking if i buy 1 now, and in the future i do decide to go efi, i will be able to use all the extra features then

also, any suggestions on what type to go for? been looking at the gizzmo kit, seems like the IBC is a nice simple controller. apexi avcr also looks nice, but has a hefty price tag and seems to do everything except drive the bloody car

It already has electronic boost control that works well, it's called an Amal valve, bleed valve would be a downgrade.

as much as i appreciate the reminder that an amal valve is an electronic boost controller, in this context im talking about the in car adjustable type, giving me the freedom of a couple of boost settings, but without resorting to an in car bleed valve

Apexi AVC-R is an awesome peice of kit and all functions are usable on a RST, MFI or EFI it makes no difference as it doesnt in any way control your fuelling or timing
See my thread here about when I fitted mine https://passionford.com/forum/ford-e...-my-avc-r.html

cheers dude, was gonna pm u but wasnt 100% sure if it was u that had an avcr or not lol

id love an avcr, but they are just seemingly a bit out of my price range. dont spose u know any1 running any of the gizzmo controllers? they do the IBC..

http://www.gizzmoelectronics.co.uk/Product_IBC.html

and the MS IBC

http://www.gizzmoelectronics.co.uk/Product_MSIBC.html

theres only about 30quid difference between them with the IBC bein £169, but they are still A LOT cheaper than an AVCR, so have immediately caught my attention lol. my mate had 1 on his evo 6, but never really saw any of the features working

the other thing that worries me about the apexi is that it does so many cool looking things, id probs stack it before getin off my own road, distracted by a bad ass boost curve

need to make a decision fairly quick, as im gonna start making up a carbon panel for in the centre console, and whatever i buy needs to be fitted into there. plus im gonna be running all the wiring and hoses to my gauges, so would make sense to get everything installed neatly in 1 go

We usually fit these to RS Turbos. They do everything most people want them to do at a sensible price and anyone can set it up.

Or if you wish to spend a little more, then this is the best electronic model on the market at sensible money and we fit them to everything from Seat Turbos to Lancer Evos with 600bhp.

Gizzmo IBC for the win mate.

Only so far after the rebuild this is the best piece of kit on the car. Plugged a couple of wires in and ran a vac line, job done. Does exactly what i wan't it to. Holds boost really well, minimal over shoot even with fairly high gain, pretty cheap and hasn't missed a beat.

Rob,
so whats the deal with these then? does it come with a solenoid to replace the amal valve? so just mount that, run my wires and vac hoses to suit?

Yes,

It comes with a solenoid, you can leave your AMAL fitted just unplug it and use its vac lines.

The solenoid has two wires and two vac take offs, one goes onto the compressor housing, the other goes onto the actuator. The controller sits inside (mines under the dash where your knees go), has a vac line the two wires from the solenoid a +12v and GND.... job done. Very easy to fit.

I mounted my solenoid on the original amal valve bracket which workes out nicely.

i cant actually find my amal valve, which is what all started my shopping for boost controllers

i dont even have any of the old vac piping anymore either, so will just make up some fresh, so can mount solenoid wherever really.

cheers for the info dude, glad u have a positive view on the IBC, as it was the 1 that seemed to just have the basic features id need without being OTT

Personally I would recommend the Greddy profec b spec II, I have used a Greddy and a gizzmo and I found the Greddy was a little better albeit more expensive

No worries buddy, dont let me put you off the Apexi or Greddy as i don't know bugger all about them. I just did lots of searching before i bought the Gizzmo and couldn't find a bad report on it, im sure its not the ultimate but price wise vs performance it was/is very good.

Rob,

PS.

I don't know if they have released a newer version of the IBC yet, but if you are going to be upping the power in the future/going to santapod a lot a boost controller with gear selectable boost (so lower boost in 1st and 2nd etc) to minimise wheel spin would be my next choice (like the Apexi).

yeah i did quite like the idea of gear selectable boost, but i think i want to avoid getting into a situation where i keep giving it death at santapod, as i will end up killing gearboxes and driveshafts and driving myself further into debt lol

mine really is just a show pony really, but id sooner have an accurate boost controller, to try and save my engine for as long as poss, as cant afford to blow it up. i used to have an in-car bleed valve, and its just asking for trouble, so something i can have a couple of accurate boost settings at the touch of a button is the way i want to go. plus they look kinda flash

Rob,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gizzmo-IBC...#ht_1153wt_918

This is one of the boost controlers im looking at, its £170 and has the limited edition Blue LED display, my Cossy Managed Escort is Lambourghini Blue Spark Blue And would go with the Colour Nicely.

All I need To Know Mate Is ..... " ARE THESE ACTUALLY ANY GOOD "

Im looking at something ten fold to this which is £500 but if i can avoid spending that much on a boost controller then i will, im more drawn to the LED blue one as its cheaper and does the basics, what do you think, i want to be looking to buy this very soon and just need some feedback on this equipment if any,

Cheers mate Rich

Here is the one for nie on £500 but i want to avoid this really due to price
