ERST Clutch Quadrant....
Hi Guys,
I've recently had a new gearbox, clutch and clutch cable fitted to my RS.
Something is not quite right though..... Sometimes when you stop at traffic lights and slip it into neutral and then first gear it pops out of gear but if you take your foot off the clutch and then press the clutch peddle down it goes into gear fine!
I know there are different coulored quadrants out there and I've also heard you can replace the mk4 peddle with a mk5 clutch peddle?!?!
I'd be grateful if somebody could explain the benefits of using a mk5 peddle.

CheeRS for the reply Spudnik,
However, the selector rod was marked before being fitted and I'm sure its as it should be.
After giving the car some beans I've noticed that the clutch peddle somtimes dosn't catch properly when engaging the clutch.... If you take your foot off and try it again theres a click anfd then it bites properly. To me thats the rachet.
I'm told its a bitch of a job to change... I'll give it a whirl and see whats what!

Not sure the info is on here so I'll link to you two bits:
1: http://www.rsownersclub.co.uk/rsocbb...ad.php?t=72535
2: Something I added onto my site but taken directly from the AP website.
This is not something you have to do when you fit one of their clutches - I have an AP clutch and even though the info was in the box I do not have any issues with the clutch not releasing.

The Ford Part Numbers for these parts as follows:-
Adjustable Pedal - 1029012
Quadrant - 1029013
Some members have used a metal quadrant rather than cutting down a plastic one, but I'm unsure of where you would get one as I'm fairly certain they were manufactured on spec.
As for actually doing it...I think the first job is lifting the driver's seat out so you can lay on the floor rather than trying to squeeze your head in all the time.

Escort Clutch Pedal Modifications
Ø220mm Clutch Fitment to Ford Escort range 1986 onwards.
To improve clutch release on Ford Escorts, post 1995 models are fitted with an adjustable clutch pedal and improved (white) quadrant as standard (see photo's).
When fitting CP3560-1, CP3560-2 cover assemblies or the clutch kits CP2000-8, CP2015-8 & CP2000-35 , AP Racing recommends that the adjustable pedal, improved quadrant and a new clutch cable are fitted to optimize clutch release in light of the higher release loads.
The Ford Part Numbers for these parts as follows:-
Adjustable Pedal - 1029012
Quadrant - 1029013
If vehicle is already fitted with adjustable pedal and white quadrant then mods below will not be necessary.
The latest Mk5 Escort Quadrant (white) has an increased radius R55mm over the Pre 1995 Quadrant (black) R40mm.
The following mods need to be carried out when fitting the white quadrant, if not the pedal will sit too high.
1: Count 10 teeth up from the lower edge of the quadrant.
2: Using a hacksaw cut along the line of the rib to the centre boss.
3: Cut at right angles to remove this section.
4: Add the M8 locknut supplied in the clutch kit to the pedal adjuster bolt.
5: Fit it back to front, this will prevent the bolt slipping off the quadrant during clutch actuation.
6: Adjust the bolt until the desired pedal position is achieved.
The increased radius of the white quadrant allows for more travel at the release bearing, hence improving clutch release/gear selection.
Important Note
AP Racing CP3560 Cover Assemblies should only be used in conjunction with our recommended driven plates (see below) and not with OE or alternative driven plates.
CP3560-1 cover can be used with CP5351-16 organic driven plate or CP5354-15 cerametallic paddle driven plate.
CP3560-2 cover should only be used with the CP5351-38 organic driven plate (uses flat segments) or CP5354-15 cerametallic paddle driven plate.
Failure to comply with any of the above recommendations is likely to result in release problems with your clutch.
