Default Help needed!

Hi all,

Looking at doing an underneath resto on my escort, what is the best way of removing all old paint/underseal? Is it a wire wheel on an angle grinder or something? Been looking at the resto section an everyone's doin it but not explaining how! Also, when it's stripped to metal, which order do I put the paint on! Primer then underseal then top colour? Or underseal first then primer as I've read a few people doin it different ways! This is my first ever resto an wanna do it right! Cheers!

Hot air gun and scrapper is how I did it mate, hard craft and then a wire wheel on an angle grinder or drill to get the last bit and then give it a clean with a rag and some thinners or petrol.

apply the primer, then stone chip if that what your using, then the paint

hope this helps

and good luck!

buy yourself a small sandblaster if you have a compressor. it will give you a good surface for your primer. etch primer, stone chip then paint.

Gonna be doin it on axle stands in my not so big garage? Can you still use a small sandblasted like this? I will be on my back underneath the car? Sounds easier to get it off! Cheers

yes you can use them where you want. they do make a mess, but well worth it. you will still need a heat gun to remove the underseal.

I did mine in axle stands last summer - all i used was this on a grinder and only cost me £4!! - goes through it like a knife through butter - and then a scraper and wd40 to loosen the awkward to get to bits.
