Default temp gauge problem

My temp gauge isnt moving up when engine is getting hot it moves when turning on ignition on but dosent move at all after a long run but engine is very hot and fan dosent cut in either any ideas? Thanks

double double check, which one goes where on the back, could be as simple as the wrong conector on


or take the ground off, it worked on mine for some reason

Two things to check -

1) Check the connection on the temperature sender - single wire with a black push on plg (if its still there) attached to the temp sender at the front of the block.

2) Replace the temperate sender - easy job and only cost a few pounds from any local motor factors but make sure you take your old one when you change it as they are colour coded and need to make sure you get the right one.

Other than that there isnt much else that can go wrong really from that side of things.

Beyond that you need to check the wiring to the fan, fan switch could be faulty etc etc

on my efi 3i, when i switch the ignition on the temp gauge goes straight to half way then works its way up from there as the car gets hotter.
not long got the car and it has white dials fitted so im going with that.....maybe?
