Hi all I'm getting my car set up next week and was wondering if it's worth running super unleaded or not. My car is a 1989 S2 rs turbo.
Fingers crossed I get half decent power. Nothing compared to some tho. Spec is s/s exhaust, filter, pro alloy intercooler, pro alloy rad, chipped ecu, piper cam ( unsure which one )

i would get it set up with what ever fuel is readily availble
no point putting optimax in if there is no shell garages near you
but would defo go with a readily available higher octane fuel

Depends if they set the base timing to the book, or if they push it to make power i suppose. Anything running over 12psi needs super IMO

Boost pressure is irrelevant to what fuel you run, as a little less advance will stop det if your using 95RON.
Your confusing leaded and unleaded fuel with high and low octane fuel mate, old engines without hardened valve seats will burn out using UL fuel.
The octane rating of a fuel is it's Resistance to detonation and will limit the amount of spark advance that can be run and so the final power figure.

super unleaded isn't readily available in ireland, and i've never had issues on 95 ron,i'm running standard boost though. as said above the ignition timing will need retarding over what would be run on 98, but power won't be down too much on your set up

In USA they do not use the same Octane system as the UK, in the USA the pump fuel is rated in PON (pump octane number), in the UK and Europe we use RON (research octane number).
PON is a value that comes from the RON and MON (motor octane number) value of the fuel and is a more acurate measurement of fuel rating than our RON system. To get PON you take the average of the RON and MON value of the fuel. (PON=(RON+MON)/2)
91PON is aproximately 95RON
93PON is aproximately 98RON
