Anyone raced another car and surprised themselves?

i understand where you are coming from if somebody told me they left a rs4 in a rst i would think they wer taking the piss! so i dont blame you for thinking what you are... but i raced them and i know my car is definately quicker than a rs4 from 40mph [thats where i raced it from] im no kid and i would do quarter mile times. i got a 13.8 and ever since then my car changed alot and i just dont like launching it there im always scared my gearbox might shit itself! ib5 quaiffe but i still hear they blow!

as above its the speed you cross the 1/4 mile.
what is this rob dohc talking about, fucking get a grip.
if you wheel spin for 2 secs it takes 2 secs of the 1/4 mile
a true 250 bhp will do a 1/4 mile in 110mph

i cant remember mate i think it was 120 something on my old quick shift box that topped out very quickly at 130... but i really cant remember to be honest i dont look at the speed i look at times tbh

What lol. If you wheel spin for 2 secs it takes 2 mins of the 1/4???? what the fuck does that mean?
Are you a physicist? Going to take a guess at no.
A good launch will make your 60ft times look much better, it won't do THAT much to your terminal speed IMO. If you do some reading the general thought is that a 1/10th drop in sixty-foot time will lead to a 2/10 drop in quarter-mile time, going over some old slips that doesn't look to be THAT untrue. With the terminal changing by a few mph. But there is A LOT more to it than that. You can drop your tyre pressures right down, get a cracking 60ft time and a rubbish 1/4mile and terminal.
So going back to my earlier comment "Traction doesn't = time, power to weight doesn't = terminal. Both factors influence each other. " Im pretty happy to stick by it. In response to "getting a good time is about traction and the terminal mph = power to weight acceleration when already rolling". Which isn't untrue, its just not so black and white.
OBVIOUSLY if you sit there spinning your wheels your time will be ruined. But if you stop and engage your brain for a few seconds you might realise that the difference between a good start and a rubbish start (with some one thats been and done it a few times) isn't huge.
So yes, get a grip indeed.

Good stuff! I was wondering where you would fit a turbo under a 220 bonnet. Whats the black pot in the middle with the fuel and N2o lines coming off? Is it some kind of duel solenoid???
Nice looking car too mate, wheels look spot on.

would have been 15 mins more and looked that part, don't understand why most wouldn't do it right in the 1st place...
but then again to some it just matters that it works, and apparently it does just that.

Always had a soft spot for ST220s, i think an ST TDCi would be an ideal family car given the current fuel costs tho. Bluefin, FMIC and exhaust system lowered over them rims would look trick as you like.
Are they Mk2 FRS Rims on your ST220? It looks really nice m8!

Would love to. But don't want to leave box on line

From what people have told me, as a rough rule of thumb a 300 bhp rst should have terminals close to 130 mph.

the other day i was on my way to get some cleaning products..on a dual carriage way with 2 normal cars behind me ...then i hear a mad PPPTTTTTSHHHHH noise and was greeted with a white subaru empreza glued on my rear bumper...so i just moved over and let him pass me.. then he decided to slow down and keep it glued behind me... soon i got annoyed and put my hand out to him so he lines up next to me and floors it.. i just dropped gear and stamped on the accelarator was soon doing some mad speed and saw the subaru so far back in my mirror so slow down and did it again and again!!!
he had several attempts but was absolutly shocked when i just kept pulling hard away from him... come to a roundabout and he says "what the fuck you got in that mate??? my reply was its standard !!
him "no it aint"
me "competely standard just run it on stearoids chap"!!! and off i went waving good bye to him
call me what u want but i dont do this much its only when i get pushed and pushed ..

Just built an ib5 for mine, hoping it will last a while!

Went to overtake a LP640 Lambo in my 11 year old 1.0 Nissan Micra........
He managed to pull away, but then I realised my sunroof was tilted open and causing a lot of drag..........I'll just get my coat

I don't think it does, its got a mount at the back that is just a twat to get off what have you done with you ib5 (is mine a bc or ib5?) my cvh just made 300bhp and 270lbft, think I'm screwed

BC - rs turbo
IB5 - mk5-6 escort
The IB5 is stronger and take the rst's lsd, but if you've got a heavy foot 300 brake and 270ft.lbs will reduce it to easily carry able chunks
What spec is your new engine buddy? Sounds like a beast!
