Default Possible engine damage?? Help..

Hi, this morning on the way to work I was driving along and got stuck behind some idiot driving far to slow, i over took them in 3rd and I think I hit the limiter although I didn't see the rev counter at the time..

Anyway as soon as I thought I hit the limiter, the car just died so I bump started it in gear and it went again but there was a very loud knocking/tapping sound coming from the engine, I couldnt go over 30mph and didn't know what I had done wrong, I was told rst's don't like the limiter and I did do it by accident..I'm worrying that I'm going to have a big problem, would
Anyone know what I'm talking about sort of or have any idea what it could be?

The car starts and runs but sometimes it will cut out, I did drive it a mike or so to get to work so it's drivable..thanks

the valve gear in cvh's are quite weak. a compression check should show up a problem. and point to a cylinder. takethe rocker over off and have a look for broken springs, rockers etc. the limiter on my s2 was well violent! backfired like a bitch! can't be good for any engine.

possible you pulled the rocker stud out the head, snapped a rocker, killed a lifter to name a few things. Dont turn it over any more or do any tests on the engine untill you remove rocker cover and check here first.

then update with what you find.

I've done a compression test and they were all reading fine, I'm going to take the cover off the head a bit later on and see if there is anything I can see, what should I be looking for? I'll have a mechanic to help me out aswell.

Also my bonnet is stuck down as my mate dropped it shut instead of pushing it shut so I have to get that open first!! Any easy way?

Thanks.

Naa I've checked the hoses, i don't think that would make the engine run like it is though haha I wish it was something that simple!!

My bonnet cable broke one, if you jack the front of the car up you can JUST about wiggle a hand and screwdriver up there to push the latch,

Glad you sorted it mate.
I wouldn't change just the lifters though, you need to change the cam and lifters at the same time,or youll just kill the lifters again.
