Default CVH34

Guys,

Where is the best place to get a CVH34?

I would like to try a new cam for 2011 in my track car as I am finding the T2 to be to laggy.

I am taking a lot of corners in 3rd (off boost) as if I was to take them in 2nd, I am about 5mph or 500 rpm off of the limiter.

I have been told that the CVH34 is basically a standard profile, but at full advance, and is a good torque cam.

Any help, advice greatly received.

p.s. It is not a monster CVH or ZVH build, just a 1.6 running a chip, cam, actuator, bleed valve, cooler, etc.

what engine is this for? I had a cvh34 ahmed in my old 1900 cvh, pulled really well, nearly as good as a standard cam but was still a bit lazy sub 4k, im pretty sure this cam was a low torque aimed cam at lows revs sort of cam meant for high air flowing engines such as zvh etc, ithink if you are talking about a cvh engine you have to make sacrifices, either a lower powered car with a nice spread of the available power threw the rev range or a higher powered car with the band spread over a few grand at the top of the rev range meaning you need to be sharp on the changes

I'm looking for something that doesn't go from 0 PSI - 21 PSI between 3500 and 3600 rpm.

I have an adjustable vernier (not fitted) could this be used to dial the boost in a bit lower?

Raj,

It's a standard 1600.

Jimbo, how much for a CVH to the spec in your car?

This cam convo has been covered so many times that its worth while searching the forum for decent technical thread with answers that have some basis behind them.

A cvh34 cam is not great for anything other than slightly tuned. It should not be used with a 1900cvh either.

Your better off with a std cam dialed in properly than spending money on a cvh34.

Search some of my previous posts for good threads.

IMO thats not true either just a myth.

Its down to the lifters that you are supplied in the kits. If you use decent lifters all the cam's from different manufactors last just as long as each other.

Jano,

I have, but there is so much conflicting advice.

My car has been running this cam for about 10 years, without problem.

It's just as I have stiffend the car up, better brakes, etc Iam now taking corners in a higher gear but off boost!!!

If I take the car to the limiter and change up, it is off boost, is this normal? Is it just needing a setup?

Or am I just to used to Mk1 and Mk2 FRS power????????

Not really, u can either take advise from people who abuse cars on track with similar spec to what you have. Or take advise from randoms that read peoples comments on the net and the regurgitate it without testing it them selfs.

The cam WILL run for 10years without issues mate, thats not what this is about tho is it? You wanted a cam better spec'd for what your doing, which the 34 is not good for.

Sounds like to me you need a decent tune and setup for what you want to do with the car.

Sorry Jano but IME thats all wrong, I have had two cams fail (lobes fall apart) and the lifters have been fine so it's no myth, I've also a mate who's Newman failed too and the lifters again were fine, all down to poor quality blanks!
Newman quite happily replaced the cam, lifters, threw in a vernier pulley and paid for new shells (scored from lobe swarf) and said they had a batch of poor quality blanks and unfortunately a few went out before it was discovered.
The last few times a Kent or Piper have failed the suppliers/manufacturers have been less than helpful (do a search on here) so my advice is buy from Newman.
Lasting 10 years is a joke, Karl Norris recommends changing your cam every year if used daily as after measuring up you'll find it's well out of tolerance.

i had a kent 35 in mine went like stink but after about 2 years of abuse the lobes had visably worn down so ive taken it out now and had to fit a standard cam in its place my only argument with the cam question is the standard cam is shorter in the tooth and the car spins up to easy but with the kent 35 i could nail her as the power curve was longer without so much torque steer.. not a complaint though torque steer is good fun

I think my first plan of attack will be a set up at MSD.

And see what my first couple of track days are like after a tune.

Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated.
