thanks to LOADS of help from peep on here iv had my escort up and running for awhile now and love it
if fact i love it so much iv bought a fiesta rs turbo for some efi fun as i wanted to leave the escort mfi!!

i bought the fiesta as a non runner and have since build up a new engine and fitted it but now i have two strange problems that i cant seem to get my head around so thought u guys might b able to help....

the engine idles fine but when i rev it i am getting a build up of pressure into the coolant system?
as if im loosing compression into the cooling system but the cylinders all have and hold compression and there is no sign of leaking from my leak back tester.Also the cooling system is holding pressure????

the other problem is that it seems to be breathing heavy?
if i remove the oil cap i seem to have to much pressure.

these probs could b linked as they are both pressure related but i cant see where/how the pressure could b leaking?!
any ideas??


also could someone post a pic of where the two pipes go to and from the control valve solenoid that bolts to the air box

Sounds like both the rings and the head gasket have gone mate

 

thats what i would say but they are both new??
and iv stripped it and checked them and they seem fine??
and would that not show with the compression test and the cylinder leak test??

 

Hmm that's strange, yes they would show!
I take it you didnt reuse the head gasket?

 

Coolant system does run under pressure in normal circumstances, depends how much tho! Make sure it's properly bled or you'll have an air lock which will cause pressure. Also, check the thermostat's ok.

Re the breathing heavy issue - you're always going to get crank case pressure but again it depends on how much. Does it run ok? If you've tested for compression and leaks and all appears to be ok then I'd get it down to a tuner for an expert opinion

 

no i used a new gasket and have also replaced the rings just to be safe!!

 

the problem is when i rev the engine u can see the bubbles/pressure building in the bottle which increase with the revs so it must be compression leaking into the cooling system??
i just cant how

the pressure in the oil breathing is too much to b normal i think!
im just going to check to see if that raises with revs because i think they could b linked!

 

ok iv sorted the oil breather problem (i hope)!!!
iv going to attack the colling prob again today, im wondering if im not bleeding the coolant system correctly?i might take the stat out and run it to try and prove the point?!

also can someone tell me or post a pic of where the pipes go from/to on the sensor at the back of the air box?

Disconect the water feed to the turbo. The housing my b cracked letting gasses into coolant

 

iv clamped both in and outlet pipes to the turbo off and it made no diff
but il try disconnecting them completely just incase.

 

So your seeing bubbles in the header tank, and that's the only symptom your seeing of a possible problem?

this is normal tbh unless it's pressurising so much it's pissing out the expansion tank's cap...its jus some froth from the water pump.

 

Sounds like you've just got an air lock in the coolant system, run with the cap off the header from cold, squeeze the top rad hose till you can feel water is definitely in there. Tighten cap up, run up to temp and let the fan cut in. Leave to cool right down and repeat to be sure, should be sorted then

 

no its more than normal pressure!im pretty sure its compression leaking into the cooling system!
at idle its fine but if i rev the engine then it will fill the bottle and blow the cap within seconds!!!
i just cant see how/where the pressure is escaping from!
iv got good cylinder compresion and no leak back
im gona check the turbo again 2moz but im thinking i must hav a crack in the head somewhere???even tho iv had this off and pressure checked!

 

Sounds like it could be a cracked head.

 

could also be a water pump
