Default rs turbo problem

my rs turbo ( series 2 mfi ) dies once i pull the oil cap off.
in my own head i dont think his should happen.
spoke to a friend about this who has alot of knowledge on fords. and he says and is adament that this is how they run.
i cant quite remember his exact words but i know he said something along the lines of the inlet takes vacuum from the rocker cover and once i lift off the oil cap it causes a leak and looses vacuum.
others have told me piston rings.
there is no smokey blow pass or smoke from exaust at all on idle or when driving.
im a little confused, does anyone have any experiance with this or able to point me in the right direction.

cheers

its supposed to cut out, as your creating a big air leak, the breather system is plumbed into the metering head, removing the cap lets a load of air in mesing the fuel mixture up

Oil cap or dipstick will cause the car to die. It would be a concern if it carried on running. Worry not!
