Default Gearbox

Ive been led to belive i may have a series one gearbox, thing is that will this fit in the series 2 even though it did come out of a series 2 which was a donor car,

Why im asking is that it wont seem to connect back up with the gear selector i think it is. and i seems to need about half an inch for it to connect up.

Sorry absoloutely rubbish and new to this mechanic side lol

Even if it is an S1 box, there would be absolutely no difference regarding the selector fitting.

The reverse selector bit is different however. In one the gate is in the box, in the other it is part of the gear remote.
I think that is what essex was referring to.

A mk3 will fit a mk4 but a mk4 won't retro fit a mk3.

My old S2 originally had a mk3 assembly fitted - as I found out when I bought a Rallye Design quick-shift kit and had to get a 2nd hand mk4 gear-stick assembly as they aren't the same.

you only use the cradle on a mk4. but a s1 box will fit the cradle.

No they are different also.
This is advice from my site when it was asked previously:

either fit the cradle from a Mk4/S2 by drilling your cross member and cutting it open to fit supporting tubes for the bolts...
...or change the gearbox casing

the thing is when i dropped the whole engine and gearbox out of my donor car i left the same gearbox cradle on the box so it would go in, unless they did that what you just said,
As i may of missed it but i look at the crossmember and nothing had been touched but i may be wrong. Hopefully if weather good tomorrow i'll have another go

They may have done or it wouldn't fit properly. As for the crossmember, they may not have inserted tubes - but without them the crossmember would crush (unless they didn't fit it safely / tightly?)
