Basically I want to know how much play is normal on the turbine in my turbo. Iv'e read that a"bit" of play is normal, so how much is a bit? I've got about 2, maybe 3 mm of left to right play, but no noticable in/out play. I also have oily residue in the intake pipe from the intercooler, and also in the pipe coming from the charge carrier. Any advice greatly appreciated, I think the turbo's knackered! p.s. There is a small amount of blue smoke on decelaration, none on start up.

Oil in the intercooler is normal unless you have an aftermarket breather system which directs the oil back into sump

a little side to side movement is okay, but any in/out and you're struggling!

just re-read it sorry! 2mm is fine the bearings will take that up when it warms up

Sounds ok to me, of course if it sounds like its struggling or it is smoking then it may need an overhaul

So whats the most likely cause of a bit of blue smoke occasionally after hard accelleration?

up and down...1mm....inside and out nothing....

u will get some play cos the turbos not under pressure
