Default Racetech gauges, any one use them?

Has any one used these before?

I really don't want loads of gauges, and if i use one of the duel oil temp/oil pressure gauges from racetech that will be one less.

One of these http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Perfor...Gauge/813/1563

Im going to be using a stack boost and EGT gauge either side, then my AFR on the pillar.

Or any other suggestions for dual gauges? other than SPA....

Cheers

Rob,

This might sound daft but are all these gauges necessary. I only ask cause I ran the same many years ago on my old s2 but since I've brought my new one I'm in to minds weather or not to put them in or just keep the boost gauge.

depends what you want mate i got mine as do track days n is slowly turning into a track car. its good to have a oil pressure as if i drops it will cause damage and will warn you a bit so can shut off sooner rather than later.

I used the dual Racetech oil temp/pressure guage but had a problem.Where the hose connected to the sump temp sender broke,so the mercury (or whatever liquid they use) leaked out and the guage of course stopped telling me the oil temp. For this reason I switched to a electric oil temp guage,no liquid to leak, just a wire. The replacement guage was also a Racetech.Just from my experience.Regards,Micky

Cheers Micky, and good point. Any idea if they do the dual gauge with electronic senders?

Sort of IMO, I want oil pressure because its a new engine etc and for obvious reasons, i want an oil temp gauge because i want to know if i need an oil cooler, im mapping it my self so need the wide band lambda and AFR gauge and the boost gauge, apart from being customary in an rst will let me know if i have any problems with the turbo, air leaks, waste gate etc.

Im planning on running (eventually) pretty high boost, like 2 bar or more, so really want to keep an eye on things such as EGT etc. I also have a knock sensor which will have a warning LED some where in the gauge cluster.

Cheers

IMO yes very much so!
Even if your car is standard everything is soooo old and could fail at any time, so being able to monitor oil temp, pressure and boost in addition to the normal water temp is very important.
Even more so in a tuned RST where things may be on their limit a lot of the time.
I'm also fitting a water level light so if I burst a hose or even have a small leak I will no before my water has gone and the engine over heated doing the head gasket and who knows what else.

Just going to get a level sensor from another car (S1's had them for example) and fit it to the side of my header tank, it only has two wires as it's just a switch so provide an ignition live to the LED and let the level switch/sensor supply the earth

I'd say everyone should have an oil pressure gauge as a bare minimum. When the low pressure light comes on the dash and you're doing 80MPH on the motorway it's game over.
