Default God my electrics are a mess.

Hi. Anybody ever changed or fitted an S2 wiring loom complete. My electrics are such a mess I'm gettin sick of pissin about with them. I've seen a couple of looms on ebay, think I'm gonna get one and change it over. Difficult? Apparantly it's been cut behind the drivers seat and comes will all plugs and connectors intact.

Be really careful buying a loom without being able to actually look at it first mate. I made that mistake a few years ago when i was a bit nieve. I bought a 'mint' and 'uncut' original 90spec loom from a guy on ebay and paid £130 for it as i was so pleased to have found such an item. But when it turned up it had cuts in it, frayed breaking wires, an old alarm in it, burnt melted headlight plugs. I felt so pissed off.

I'd agree with taz, its defo a dash out job, full interior as u have to remove the rear door card panels and to get them off properly you've got to have the rear seat out.
The parcel shelf supports can remain in the car, dont worry about them, just the seats, rear door card panels, boot side carpet panels, dash, sill plastic panels. A good days work imo.

I guess that's the risk with ebay. Hopefuly I'll be luckier than you. Unfortunately my budget insists I take the risk but I know what you mean.

Luckily all my interior is already out and is staying out so I've already done perhaps 40% of the work. My engine should be out too. My plan was to lay it all out, label up what I can and then call an auto electrician out to help me with the rest. Good plan?

u shouldnt need an auto electrician mate, everything is just plugs etc. Just label everything as u remove the old loom then lay the 2 next to each other and go along comparing them so u can label the new loom. Start at back of the car when removing and work your way forwards. The fuse board inside the fuse box pulls out and once everythings undone from inside the car u literally feed it all through the fuse box and up out into the engine bay. I'd come and do it for u if u lived in essex lol. Try to get a full loom ideally instead of one thats been cut at centre of the car. Anymore questions just ask on here and we'l help u out as u go along, i hate seeing people paying high labour rates charged by professionals when its actually easy to do yourself.

I agree, I always think "if he can do it then so can I". Problem is, half my loom is already removed and my eyes well up with tears every time I look at the crows nest next to my steering wheel. Hopefully I'll get the new loom and it will all become clear. Maybe with a few pics you might be able to help lol.

To be honest mate i think at first glance most people looms look like a mess. What i would advise is like the chaps above said strip the inside and it would help if your rad and intercooler where off.

Is it not worth trying to save your loom ? What i did was got like 10 rolls of Black electrical tape and Started from the back of the car Taping and labling everything that i need. then the went all the way to the front of the engine and made sure EVERYTHING was labled. it tooke me about 2 -3 days to do but it was well worth it then when i took the loom out the car everything that wasnt labled i traced back and cut out. some of the shit in he loom old alarms turbo timers, cd players , aftermarket relays that went no where.

My advice is strip the interior out of the car and pull the loom out of the engine bay and repair the loom you already have.

From my experience, there are not many decent looms left out there and it is far less hassle to just repair your own. The difficult bit is getting at the loom by stripping out the dash, etc....
