Angry yet more problems, need some help please

long story short, had the car on the rollers 4 months ago and was told my cam was worn.
got my car home fitted new piper cam (run in 2500rpm).
didnt go near the car untill about six weeks ago, when a guy got in touch with regards to buying it.
took a deposit and car is supposed to be going to its new owner first week in november.
so decided to double check car was running ok, so went for a spin, all seemed ok untill two rocker studs pulled them selves out !!!
got car home and helicoiled the studs, job done.
road tested the car again and the fan failed as got home and blew a hose.
fitted new fan and hose, headgasket seems fine / temps are fine.
BUT noticed my idle was a bit up and down, played with idle screw and idle mixture, no improvement.
Road tested it and now it coughs and splutters half way through the revs on boost. and now does not like starting when its warm also noticed a slight tap from the top end.
im really fed up with the car, can somebody please give me some advice

Firstly check all hose clips are tight using a spanner or socket.

Then disconnect the blue plug at the back of the inlet and then if you must (don't advise it though but its how I did mine) adjust your CO mixture.

Start the car and let idle and warm up a bit with the fan off. Then take a 3mm Allen key and insert into the adjustment screw on the metering unit. If its struggling to idle you are maybe overfuelling so turn it anti clockwise in small increments until it idles smoother. Don't worry about the idle speed as this can be adjusted later. If it makes the idle worse then turn the other way until it improves.

This should be done using a CO analyser and you are looking for a figure of 3% or less thats why the pros should do it.
Once done adjust the idle speed by turning the screw under the throttle body either in or out to decrease/increase the revs. It should be about 950 rpm.

Thats how I did mine and it starts first turn of the key, idles smoothly and drives fine.

I hope you changed the oil when you did the cam and tightened everything to the correct torque figure.

thanks for the reply mate im really at my witts end.
i will give it a try but i have already tried adjusting the idle mixture (qtr turn at a time & let it settle) and had no joy, would removing the blue plug whilst doing this make a difference ?? what is the blue plug ??
also would my co / idle mixture effect my car on boost ??
many thanks Ryan

if the co is good then it will all be good

you can get it set up on an anayliser in an mot station, they have em for mot's and its not alot of hassle

kjet will always cause hassle, its ok std but when you mess with it its not something thats 'fit and forget'

blue plug is for the cold start valve. If your thermo time switch is buggered it can play havoc with hot and/or cold start co it can inject excess fuel unnecessarily. Whs above no worries for fuelling on boost by adjusting idle mixture.

cheers lads,
i will have a look at the co level. would the co level really effect the car on boost ??? i will have a look at the thermo and cold start aswell.
does seem to stem from replacing the cam though.
if a car is set up on a worn cam, would fitting a new one mess up the fueling/co/idle etc ??
thanks again

the mfi will be affected if you have been playing with the co as it was set to match the fuel needed for on boost....

might be worth getting it into a tuner quick and just getting a quick set up to what ever it cn run then leave it..... some tuners can even do a static tune for around Ł40/50 and should be fine to sell then
