Default fuel system for modified rs turbo

whats the easiest way of making a reliable fuel system....

ive been looking at running a swirl pot and braided lines ect with 044 for lift and and another for main pumps and a symtec billet filter but works out like £600+....

is the standard fuel system any good and what are other options...

it needs to flow enough fuel for 2bar boost on greys.... and be reliable

Surly just an uprated pump would be enough mate as the standard tanks already have a swirl pot built in i think?

lol Yeah I think your going a bit over the top Mark, standard fuel system runs 6 bar and when your EFI that is fucking loads as you only need 3.5bar at the rail, so plenty of overhead.

I would just stick a new pump on and check (or renew) your fuel pump wiring so it has a good reliable battery voltage and maybe leave the MFI accumulator in line if your worried about surge.

standard cossie fuel pump is all you need ,thats what richie runs with 2.1bar boost on a t34 and greys.
and im on the same pump too but i may have to change mine to a 044 soon.

Just remember achieving a high fuel pressure is not the same as achieving a high flow rate which is what you want.

You could achieve 10 bar of pressure by putting a pin prick sized restrictor in the fuel line doesn't mean to say it can flow enough fuel for a 300bhp engine.

That goes without saying or course, but the MFI pump will flow quite a bit before needing to be upgraded, dont know exactly how much though.

You are very correct sir. A good standard pump with first class wiring will go some before running out of juice. 2wd cossie I believe is better but if a new pump is being purchased I would go 044 just never run them dry or they pop real quick.

I was just commenting on peoples obsession with fuel pressure achievable not flow rates.

use the standard fuel pump trigger wire to a relay and use decent sized wire from this to the fuel pump

cheers guys well ive been looking into this now and matt lewis motorsport do a standard size upgrade for a rst for £95 and i can keep all my standard carrier ect...

my main concern is the return fuel pipe realy as its a shitty thin plastic one for mfi then cut down to fit to the fuel regulator and will a fiesta turbo fuel reg be upto the job

As a side note make sure your tank is genuine ford with the proper swirl pot etc.
Pattern tanks are dog shit!

i dont think its a genuine ford tank mate.....

Might not, take it off, take the fuel sender out and you should be able to see a white swirl pot (plastic) in the tank.

Pattern tanks do have swirl pots but they just dont work like the genuine ones

i will check coz when the mot tester drove it last yr im sure he was saying it lost power round a right corner....

so im gunna change it for piece of mind thanks guys

If I doubt use your standard pump to run a swirl pot and a .44 to run from there. You need to ensure around 4psi min at the swirl pot. For mine I run a pressure switch in the swirl pot mounted to a big light on the dashboard. If the swirl ppt runs below 4psi the light comes on telling me to shut down. With 1.5 Litres in the swirl pot this gives you plenty of time and warns of a failing lift pump. Obviously doesn't warn if the .44 goes, but every little helps.

There is also a lot of argument about where the returns should dump their fuel. I chose the tank to alleviate heat build up as much as possible.

im thinking of going to pro alloy and having a proper fuel system put in after the cossies ect that ive had getting fuel surge and i want some piece of mind for when im giving it death lol...

i want to get out on a couple of track days and dont want to kill all my hard work

The copy tank in out frst makes the car cut out going round a round about. Tis gling in the bin. If u look at the fuel system on a mk2 golf gti they run an external swirl pot.

ok well ive seen genuine ford tank so im gunna buy it at the end of the month to save any trouble.... its not that bad i have to take it off anyway to fit the new brake lines

if it is going to be £100 to get a new tank, you can get a little external swirl pot for less than that, and that looks a bit cool into the bargain

yes mate, two pumps required, although the lift pump has no real load and will flow enough fuel at zero pressure, the main pump has to be man enough for the high pressure side, a new k-jet pump will be well up to the job.

stuff it i will just stick my tank on fleabay and get another genuine one and a uprated direct fit pump
