Default Cam kits

Had my car set up at Oddkidd's on thursday (thanks for doing that with no notice at all jan) and after a proper bit of enthusiastic driving home one of my already lazy tappets decided to take a turn for the worst, its proper knackerd now. Im going to get a cam kit next week but not sure which one to go for. Do hydrulic tappets have a limit to what power they can take? Was gonna go for a kent cam kit as i already have the pully but they all seem to be hydrulic? Hopefully my car will be a fair bit over 200bhp in the not so distant future when all done so done wanna have to replace the cam again then. Any advice? Thanks

I always stuck to my guns with Kent despite there rep and also the first newman cam i had (hydraulic) killed my engine thanks to a bad grind equalling zero oil pressure!!! However i recently gave Newman a second chance and went solid and my god, its transformed the car! I still say Kent are good if you run it in 100% properly and fit it using graphogen etc but Newman have a v.good range out there now

No way?!
A mate of mine just had a Newmans kill an engine because it fell apart, and then the replacement they sent was shit too having both ends open allowing the oil to piss out the dizzy end resulting in no oil pressure!
They also sent him a set of used lifters with it!!

On 3rd cam now and it's as it should be and came with new lifters.....
They also threw in a Vernier pulley and £80 to pay for new shells, still not really the best though is it?!

usually depends on the ramp angle of the cam lobes and what rpm you go to as to whether hydraulic tappets can be used or not

for the extra aggro of getting solid tappets set up, id go for them tho

Yeah I'm glad it wasnt mine...... poor bastard!

To answer the OP's question..
There is no BHP limit as such just RPM for hydraulic, 7000rpm is fine with Hydraulic on standard springs which is plenty for most of us.

you dont want to go too hard of a spring tho or you will put too much strain on an allready badly designed weak valvetrain

Do not use doubles, standard Ford springs are fine for well over 7000rpm, as botters says below your putting extra strain on a already weak setup!

Dont matter if you have rollers rockers and solid lifters used with double springs and light weight caps.

Mate i never got valve bounce on a shitty OEM spec cam, springs and lifters @ 7000 RPM, so i really doubt that you would with piper springs (unless they were wanky).

Any one got any thoughts (apart from wearing quickly) on piper cvh34 cams?

it started around 5500rpm but only seemed to do it from 3rd onwards but it was alot worse on the road so i swapped to doubles and it pulled the 20/21psi to the limiter . but i had piper valve springs to start so hadnt tryed the ford ones

In that case i could be wrong mate, just the lowleyest of the low springs seemed to cope. Maybe piper did it to decrease cam lobe wear.
