Default diagnostic plug/socket

is there a diagnostic plug on a s1? reason i ask is i was on a training thingy this week and they said cars had to have a diagnostic feature for certain elements of a car after 1982.ive had a look and cant seem to find it..any ideas..cheers

are you sure it wasnt 1992 as thats when cats came in and they run on closed loop fueling needing an ecu.
it was only compulsry for cars to have a diagnostic socket (dl 16 way connector) from 2000 onwards and to be eobd compliant from 2002 onwards.

sorry also s1's dont have a diagnostic connecter, ford used a brakeout box to test for faults. normally known as a popbox test.
im may be corrected on this
