I'm using 20 year old springs as far as I know and have no probs with a rev limit of 7000rpm and thats with a Newmans cam and solid lifters.
Standard ford springs are indeed the ones to use over aftermarket ones it seems.....just for reference DO NOT touch Newman's own springs lol....the problems i had with valve bounce at high rpm were indeed down to their springs they told me i had to fit!
When i changed them for ford springs we measured the springs poundage, and the newman were 124pound compared to the ford ones at 185pound
Car revved happily to 7k afterwards

thanks for all your help guys
Correct
Also make sure you use plenty of cam lube when fitting, both on the lobes and lifters, well on everything TBH!!

you can get duplex 200lbs double valve springs from burton power for under £80

and newman cam is £124 and the solid lifters are 150
