Default Overheating?.....

hi all....had the s2 put back on the road today with a brand new mot and tax. i took it out for a drive and after a while of driving it sounded a bit "boggy", lack of power, popping and banging wen slowing down/lifting off.
I pulled over and could hear like bubbling from the thermostat housing so unscrewed the coolant filler cap on the bottle a bit and loads of pressure was being released and carried on hissing out of the cap for like 10 mins. i also noticed the exhaust manifold was glowing where it was so hot.
the temp gauge was within the normal running temp area and wasnt in the red.

this happened twice but when left for about 2 hours its fine again.
checked thermostat and thats fine to.

anyone got any ideas? cheers

drives fine now but i havnt been on a drive like yesturday when i was in it for a couple of hours....was taking it easy aswell not like i was ragging it every where.

when it gets really hot and does all of the above, you can hear the turbo spinning up really early like at below 2k rpm.

cheers

Firstly opening the headertank cap when the engine is hot is the worst thing to do as this will cause the water to boil inside the engine and cause more damage than needed.

It sounds like you have an issue with the setup and tuen of the engine due to the way you say it was driving. I would advise getting it setup or at least looked at by someone who knows the MFi system inside out.

If you have issues with over heating the best thing to do is leave all fans running and try and get to around 50mph without using much power. Then after a mile or so pull over and turn the engine off for a min or two but leave the fans running. Then start it back up. This give the water in the rad a little time to cool down before it starts to move around the engine again. If you do this a couple of times it should help bring temps down quicker.

Then once the temps have dropped a bit get driving again to 50mph without too much power, if the temps rise again then you have an issue that needs to be sorted real quick.

Dont open tanks when hot as water when sealed with boil at 110degree if it has no cap its at 100 degree. That 10 degree diff can help save the block and headgasket etc.

also having the heater on full blast will help temps. it'll draw hot water away from engine to the matrix. next time do that.
Let the water fully cirulate. have the blower so the air is pointing you and open the windows on summer days.

cheers guys. it only had the symptoms of the way it was driving when it was real hot only happened twice.

i drove it to and from work earlier and after both drives (my work is only a 5min drive away on 30mph roads) the header tank was bulging where there was so much pressure build up. i done a block test at work that was fine, i also checked the radiator for blockages and all hoses and thermostat. the only thing i can think of that could be causing this pressure build up is maybe the header tank cap has had it? not releasing pressure.....

also it went for a set up a little while ago but seems to be running rough again so its booked in a totd for wednesday.

cheers

put a new cap on today didnt help the pressure build up in the header tank.....anyone know what could be causing this pressure build up? its not the head gasket....also there is good flow every where no blockages just there excessive pressure build up.

try removing the pipe on top of the thermostate housing when the engine is up to temp, take the pipe off until water comes out then put it back on, be carefull as it will be hot. i was told this is the highest point so air gets trapped here
