Default Anybody reconditioned a turbo unit?

Thinking of doing mine as it has a fair bit of play in the shaft. The genuine garrett kits are not too badly priced. Im a fairly competent person but how hard is it to strip and re-assemble?

I bought 2 special sockets when i done a few, but imo it's a waste of time, because if you strip it right down when back together you cant balance the shaft and they dont last long before they go again!lol

so i wouldn't bother, if you got a bit of side to side play thats fine it's end float ya dont want.

you need to look at the shaft size as you can put new bearings in and it will still fill a bit lose as wear on the shaft[not all the time].also wear on the turbine seal area

i've built loads for about 5 year's it's not hard but it's the tolarances you need to know
and get it balanced

if you wanted to it yourself it isn't that hard and most tools are in a basic socket set, and you'll need a pair of fine circlip pliers.
hardest bit is balancing, but a local turbo place will balance for £30, so about £200 cheaper than them doing it.
if the blades have severely hit the ousing, then you may as well upgrade to a stage 2/3 as ideally the comp wheel and housing will need replacing to get the best from it.

Thats good to know, i was going to do mine but stopped as i didn't think a firm would balance something not done by them.

its 42/48 so already bigger. The blades look fine but untill its apart wont know the extent. The housings have light score marks so i dont think it will be too bad. There isnt a local turbo place around here so to get it balanced so i think i might get it rebuild.
