Default alternator problem

hello all, just before xmas i asked how to wire up my alternator, as it was slightly different fitting to the previous one. fitted it fine but its not charging the battery......

pic...

i have wired it up as advised by a few on here and by how the shop owner tells me. but no joy.

what is the black box thing circled in green in the pic? is this needed? mine hasnt got one. i have one of these on my old alternator that i could maybe transfer over. could this be the prob? cheers

Alright there bud, Ive had a few alt problems to but Finlay fixed things.

Right the little box it a compressor or something along them lines it helps prevent interference with your radio signal.

the power should go to the b+ .

is the part where you connected the dash wire made up of 3 little prongs ??

hi, there was only 2 wires. a larger 1 that i have put to the b+ and the smaller to the dash light by changing to a spade connector. as for 3 little prongs....?! they were both just washer connectors that got bolted on.

my battery dash bulb doesnt even work anyway... so cud i put both wires to the b+ and see if that works? cheers

o and the little box isnt required then ok cheers mate

Theres your problem mate. if your bulb has gone then there isn't a full circuit you need to dash light to be working to make the circuit complete.

buy prongs i mean little spade terminals 2 of witch should be sightly larger than one of them the dash wire needs to be connected to the smaller one. but yeah the power connects to the b+

Some of then original alternators just came with little plugs that you plugged into the alternator ( no wire stripping or crimping required) by the looks of things you have a universal style one.

Yeah providing the other cables are in the right place all it well .

When i replaced mine my rev counter refused to come out so i removed the heater controls and put my hand in to remove the bulb it was abit fiddly but might be easier

originally this alternator would have just used the 3 spade plug connector yes. (smaller spade for the d+ as shown in pic and 2 larger spades next to the D+...) are the other 2 the B+? could i try putting lare spade connectors on my 2 B+ wires and see if it works when put on to the spade connectors? chers. aaron

Yes the thick wires are both B+, the large spade connectors and the B+ bolt are connected internally, so it doesn't matter where you put B+ wires
