hi, there was only 2 wires. a larger 1 that i have put to the b+ and the smaller to the dash light by changing to a spade connector. as for 3 little prongs....?! they were both just washer connectors that got bolted on.
my battery dash bulb doesn't even work anyway... so cud i put both wires to the b+ and see if that works? cheers

Theres your problem mate. if your bulb has gone then there isn't a full circuit you need to dash light to be working to make the circuit complete.
buy prongs i mean little spade terminals 2 of witch should be sightly larger than one of them the dash wire needs to be connected to the smaller one. but yeah the power connects to the b+
Some of then original alternators just came with little plugs that you plugged into the alternator ( no wire stripping or crimping required) by the looks of things you have a universal style one.
