Which turbo?
I have a 1.6 cvh with a .+5mm oversize pistons 7.5:1 comp and steel bottom end and a stage 4 head with a kent cvh36 and big valves and gas flowed fully rebuilt head, stage 2 + cts box with grippa diff and running gotech management.
Can anyone recommend a turbo for this setup i am looking at 300bhp at the moment but may want to uprade to abit more at a later date.
I have been told that a gt series turbo like a gt2871r is a very good turbo to go for but other people have mentioned that you might need a gt30.
I really dont want something that will be laggy. anyone used either turbos or give some advice please?
looking for spooling up time, what rpm max boost comes on and at what rpm the boost starts to die off. thanks for your help.

You're looking at 350bhp at the moment, then more at a later date?
It's taken years of development for the only 3 or 4 of us that have got that far with the 1600cvh, trust me, it's not going to be a case of bolting a turbo to that engine and everything will be OK. It's going to be laggy as fuck and a whole lot of agro to get everything right.
Good luck!!

No-one who's actually got the hallowed 300+ will tell you exactly what they've done to get it mate.....it's all top secret lol For what it's worth it think a gt2871 would be a good choice, i will be using a gt28 of somesort when i've ran my new engine in, think with the right headwork, cam, mapping etc i'm hoping mine will be close or over 300bhp.

Yes, power graphs.
I've lost count of the amount of times I've spec'd mine and been sure I'd got it all right, then I run it up and it just doesn't do it for whatever reason. Take the latest spec, it's got ALL the ingredients for 350bhp, but it's not done it and won't do it. 305bhp at 1.5 bar, 320bhp at almost 2.0 bar. Shockingly shite really.
I do know what the problem is right now and know what I have to do to fix it, but it's not easy. 350bhp from a 1600CVH isn't easy, thats a fact.
d4 rst - I'm still waiting for standard front top mounts for my Konis from a PF member who is sorting them for me. Until then I can't take the front Gaz's off. I'll update the for sale thread when they go on.

I don't know if 350 is easy or hard all i know the guy tuning mine certainly knows his stuff.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
why would anyone be shocked ??? have you ever run a 1/4 mile if so what time did it run and what was the terminal? if its less than 115mph over the line you dont ave over 300hp.

never done one and isn't 1/4mile runs do with with traction, gearing, reaction times, cars setup i.e tyres, tyre pressure, weight, didn't think you would use that to work out if your car had 300bhp?

p-s the reaction time has nothing to do with the time .

And there we go pmsl.....everyone avoids actually saying what's required etc.....i know what's needed but won't tell anyone seems to be the norm! Everyone wants to know what others have done but won't let on what they themselves have done! Not true in all cases but certainly in most

if this tuner is so good at getting all this power should he not be the one you should be talking to about your turbo spec?

With all this talk of 300bhp, I can tell you a few things.
When we first got our Dyno and I believed that I had 320bhp (this is 2-3 years ago), it had made roughly this power on another Dyno and broken the 160mph barrier, then I ran it on ours and realised I only had 280bhp. It was still a fucking quick car, no doubt, but not 300+ as I had thought.
Now it is 320bhp, its quick on another level, but I think most of that is down to the torque curve and the way it delivers power. The torque is almost totally flat. It has only 20lb/ft less torque at 7200rpm than it has when it first comes onto boost.
I'm not sure if it will stay like that as I correct the issues I have and raise the boost, but for now, its feel fucking ballistic.
As Crazycage said, I have done 120+ terminal speeds, can't remember how fast exactly as I have never been into 1/4 miles myself, although I am determined I am going to pull at least a semi-respectable time out of it soon. It has done 165mph in a mile and on the next outing, I hope to hit 170mph in a mile.
Jamsport do indeed say they can get 350bhp out of a 1600CVH, Stuart Collins car is the proof. I've not ever really seen any proper graphs from it, but its clearly quick and its clear that alot of effort has gone into that car, far more than a rebuild, big turbo and cam.

Here is moprhs' spec
MY SPEC IS:
steel bottom end
forged pistons 7.5:1 cr
h sections rods
stage 3 head with uprated cam, 3 degree angle seats, bronze guides, sodium bigger valves
stage 3 t3, dual bearing with maram shaft
running als/launch
gotech pro x
cossie throttle body
custom inlet
just a main area of parts covered
no graphs as i can show a graph with 355bhp just to prove what? that my car car run on a dyno and make that?
2 stage boost high running and holding 26, low running 17.
I thought you would have learned to stop talking shit after you got ripped to bits in this post
https://passionford.com/forum/genera...-good-for.html
Some pictures of the car and engine bay would be nice.

I cant believe 300bhp with 1600cvh engine is something x-files technology.
My pretty simple engine produced nearly 270bhp with pretty warm conditions in dyno. There was 20psi of boost.
And my turbo limit was found. I believe with better turbo 280-290 can be easily rolled out.
You can see in my dynograph in 5800 rpm when turbo was its limit.

first you come out with i didn't have that spec coz i didn't reply back and now you have taken something out of context and think you have been clever! my car is 303bhp which i have clearly mentioned! READ THAT LINK AND SEE WHERE I SAY IT IS 303BHP MUPPET
i have no graphs as graphs don't prove what power a car really has, thats why i said that i could have shown a graph with 355 to prove what basically?
My car has not made 355bhp! you clearly know that as if you read in that link i mention my car is 303bhp and not 355bhp dum arse!
and now posting this shite on here just shows me you are just a prat!
