Default exhaust manifold

i got a s/s manifold for my erst. fitted it sunday n already blown the gasket from the bottom of number 1 port! i used a good quality gasket n don't think its a problem with the head face as my cast 1 never had a prob! so thinking it might be the manifold is warped! 1 of my mates jus said use 2 gaskets but i feel this is a bodge. so wats my options, get the manifold skimmed n new gasket?

get the manifold face skimmed and use a new gasket.
if this blows again, you may need a little paste, but only a small amount though.

Had exactly the same thing mate!

Fitted SS manifold with a 'motorfactors' CVH Turbo gasket and it blew it instantly. I then got an original Ford gasket from Matt Lewis Motorsoprt on t'internet...and it's still holding fine.
There was quite a difference between the gaskets. The original one has solid 'Fire Rings' around each port and the cheaper one did not. The rings would appear to stop the gasket compound material from being blown out...

That's my theory anyway and it worked for mine! Just out of interest which manifold have you fitted??

Hope this helps!!!

Hi mate.
Not sure od the brand of the original gasket, however if you can see an original one and an aftermarket one side by side you'll notice the difference....
I'll try to find some pics!!

Right.... Have a look at the pic on this link and hopefully you'll see the fire rings that I mean, in comparison to an ordinary one. This is the gasket i'm using, just got it without the stud kit!

chances are the manifold is warped if its been welded round the ports, but a ford gasket might fix the prob

the autospecialists one i bought was warped i discovered after it kept blowing......for sure the ford gaskets with the fire rings are 100 times better, mine used to blow the aftermarket gaskets constantly.

fitted the ford gasket and guess wat...........................it blew straight away!

so today i stripped it all out again n sending the manifold for machining! checked it with a straight edge n it is bad! n defo looks like an autospecialist 1. so gotta get another gasket. but hopefully wen its back from machiners my calipers will be back from powdercoating so can fit all at once!

quite a few tubular manifolds are slightly distorted on the location face
ive just skimmed and lapped one so it is dead true
more risk of fatigue if you clamp a distorted manifold on the head
