Default START UP

My rs is a bit dodgy when am starting her up, more when she is cold.

When am starting her up i have to give it a bit of throttle then it starts fine. Could this be the fuel filter??

Any ideas would be very helpful thanks Rab

I unplugged my cold start valve, seems to have helped no end, iirc it can be the injectors weaping slightly which ontop of the extra fuel added by the cold start, which makes it a bit of a pig to start, so suppose another option is a new set of injectors??

Bang on there mate, and yes the correct way to remedy it is new injectors which will also give you even fuelling again! Genuine Bosch ones about Ł100 from ebay!

mine does this ever since it was setup.

before it used to start first time, no throttle now it takes 15 or so seconds of cranking with your foot flat down. ollie at nms said they all have their quirks and after he rebuilt the metering unit thats what happened. i dunno.

I'm no expert (unlike NMS) but i've never had a RS engine that doesnt start almost first turn of the key, if the cars running fine it's generally only down to the idle mixture being incorrect. This can be the mixture screw itself that needs adjustment, leaking main injectors, faulty auxiliary air device, or faulty cold start injector/coolant temp sensor.

i'm just repeating what he told me.

the car idles like a dream once running, i mean perfectly well behaved even like a much newer car would, it doesn't even splutter and pulls cleanly through all the gears. its easier to start when warm, a couple of cranks and it'll fire, but in the morning its always 10- 15 seconds.
