Default people that have rear headrests

was this an option from factory or have people modded the rear seats to accept the front headrests?

If so, how is it best done?

I've seen a couple of series 2's where they have taken the headrests from the front seats and just slotted in between the back seats and the parcel shelf

normally they just use a couple of brackets on each headrest an screw them into the back of the seat

I did this a few years back with my s2 and my xr2. Like it says, looks good but not practical. then i realised, it made it look more like a family car!

Go to a salvage yard and get the black plastic 'tubes' that the headrest go into.

Cut a small hole in the top of the rear seat fabric and push the Black plastic 'tubes' down then fit the headrests into them.

They will look properly fitted then.........

You could probably get away with screwing 2x15mm pipe clips per headrest, to the rear of the back seat then just slide the headrest prongs into them.

hi
i have done this mod i used 15 copper tube spaced the right distance apart with a metal plate on the top i soldered 2 olives to the pipe then placed through the metal plate (3mm) then with the 4 mm above the metal plate hammered it over like a rivot
i marked the seat back for position and made 2 cross slits to take the head rest through the seat back material i did this before unpicking the seat material back to place the plate with tubing in the seat back under the seat material its also good to use a piece of tube heated up to burn through the foam to make space for the plate/tube once in position put it all back in and slid the head rest in but if i remember i made wedges to go in tube to make stiff so head rest was sturdy
once i had had the seats apart i see another way to do the mod from the back of the seat without unpicking the seat material and have done it a few times and is alot better
it entails making 2 brackets for each headrest and a hole at the back of the seat with locking bolts to clamp headrest in postion and does not notice but this is to hard to explain how todo as you have to be a good welder to make the brackets and and have the markings right on the back seat for it to line up right if you follow me

I was thinking holes in the top of seat, plastic flanges from front seats to look tidy, slide in, drill 4 holes in back of seat metal (2 either side of each prong) and jubilee clip around the prongs and seat metal through the holes........repeat for other head rest!

In fact does anyone have any headrests they want to sell, with the plastic flanges they slide through?
Any one got any pics of this done too?

i will have a trawl through my photo libary to find them of my old rst with it done
and using jubilees pulls it to close to back seat metal and changes the angle of the headrests upright even though this can be adjusted but using jubs must be untidy from looking at the back of the seat if you follow me or have i miss understood you

if it helps, i took some pics of my orion ones (factory). it may or may not help. the black plastic lugs push down and turn 45 degrees to lock them in.

i know the escorts dont have strength in the rear seats but it might help someone figure out how to secure them properly.

Yeah you've got it mate, as you say the angle can be adjusted and mines a cabby so you cant see bugger all of the back seat when the boots open anyway, so thats fine for me!
