piece of piss, bridge into the two wires that come off the fan switch (dont cut them), run these wires into the dash and to a standard flick switch, i brought a nice dinky one from Maplin, was about £2!

hi
i have found that you can use a different operating temp switch they are marked on the face
i use a 88/93degree and my fan kicks in on the m thats in the car now it has a green end
i used a 98/103degree orange end the proper one for the car and fan kicked in 3/4 up the guage
there is another colour think its blue but dont know temp range.
are you using 2 fans or 1 fan as i have 2 on mine and when 1 played up mine ran between n and o on guage untill the fan was put right

If you do fit the switch, get one with a light on... or add an led to the circuit. That way you'll know when its on and when its not. Leaving the switch on and not realising will cause the switch to overheat and die - like mine did

Had one on my old turbo, but was manual, pain in the ass as you do forget and then think s**t!!! as you see the needle in the red.

Or, you get a call from the garage to say they left it idling and blew the red like I did, luckily the previous owner had botched the rad so it gave out before the head gasket - phew.

My fault as I had neglected to tell the garage about the switch lol!!

Personally I would look to improve the cooling system to keep the temps down as it will make for less panic in traffic!

As Nigel said use a relay, the making and breaking of the switch will eventually burn it out, you could wire the switch into the standard fan relay...

Have you checked the water level? You might have a leak. At first I thought it was the thermostat but it doesn't make sense if it switches on when it's red hot. The problem is not the switch imo.

Anyway I wouldn't recommend a manual switch cause if you forget to turn it on... GOOD LUCK! But a lower temp thermostat yes. But first fix the problem!

just get yourself a manual flick switch inside the car with an led so you know when its on, and get yourself an 82 degree thermostat.
thats what i did, switch the fans on in traffic and my temp never goes above "o"

get the lower degree rating fan switch u can, i use the green one and you never have to forget to switch it on and regretting it later if that dont sort it you then need to investigate it further or add another fan ,two 9inch fans do the job
