Default What would u fit intercooler or chargecooler on ur s2?

Right before i get my car setup i'm going to fit sme sort of cooler. I have a pace s2 chargecooler system or i have a half size pace intercooler.

I use my car everyday it will be running about 12psi, stage 2 hybrid, ahmed bayjoo chip and ahmed bayjoo cam, scorpion stainless sytem. rebuilt engine which is brilliant and silent.

What should i stick on it, i'm not looking to spend more money on front mount etc just want to utilise what i have to make it goos enough and reliable enough to use everyday?

opinions welcome

cheers folks

Ive got the Chargecooler and would advise that one.

Works better with a larger watercooler & water tank

Most definatley, the water becomes quite hot after a while and especially after a good thrash, increased water will mean cooler water flowing round the system.

I had a tank made up, there is probably something else you could use, maybe just a generis tank from somewhere, as long as its bigger it will be better.

what about the header tank from an efi xr3i and i could move the fuel filter and fit the header tank there, so the cars has 2. One for radiator other for chargecooler?

that would work, like post above, the more water in your system the longer it will take to warm up, same for the rad, the bigger it is the more cold air can pass through it thus cooling more of the water

I supose that would be ok providing the pipes are the same diameter as the outlets on the header tank.

I'd probably go with an IC myself. The general opinion on charge coolers seems to be if you use them for short blasts only they are very good, but for prolonged use they fall down as the coolant with the chargecooler cant cool down quick enough, so you need to stop thrashing the car for a bit.

You could also strap a big fan to the IC and also water spray for a bit of extra cooling effect.

interesting points being bought up. As i say it will be either one of them being fitted, i do town driving so it is short blasts, don't really do long distance driving. Its all local driving from mine to friends etc stuff like that

I have also heard horror stories about chargecoolers splitting internally, which obviously dumps water into the engine. I dont doubt its probably a very uncommon occurence, but theres no risk of that with an IC.

with my setup what do u think i would get the best power from with the driving i do. I don't drive it hard everywhere, just occasionally now and again as its my everyday car, so i can't afford to destroy it

I'm using a GRS twin pass intercooler and water injection as that provides protection against detonation.
My car does not get high enough ACT temps in general to warrant the water injection as the GRS does a sterling job however I like having it for added piece of mind and protection.

I would not personally use a charge cooler on a RST unless restricted by space simply because they can suffer from heat soak.

The intercooler will probably be less work all in all to fit it, and even the high power RST's use a big front mount.

Generally the best ones are the twin pass front mounts but remember this will make a slight difference in the way the boost comes on as the internal volume of the intake system is being increased. Singe pass are the most effecient but its not very easy to fit one on an RST because of the piping arrangement.

Turbocabbie - i meant water spray as in a spray pointing at the intercooler as opposed to water injection on the inlet system.

On an RST, GRS interooler for me. A charge cooler could be good, but they need a larger radiator IMO.

You could use both though.

I'm aware of what you meant
I was simply stating the setup I run and why.

Im always a bit curious about the water spray at the inter cooler does it actually make a vast amount of difference ?

i could have the pace intercooler in the standard place move the airflow meter abit back and fit the charge cooler tank there nect to it and pipe it all up?

or would i run the water through both main tanks so effectively twin chargecooler tanks units?

If your choosing between the half sized intercooler and the charge cooler from experience I would advise the charge cooler as I started with the half sized intercooler then went to the charge cooler and noticed an improvement in performance. If you are choosing between a full front mount and a charge cooler then the full front mount would be my choice.

I've seen a few S2's with both c/c and i/c. Works very well.

I got a friend that runs both on a turbo Swift, and his engine bay is alot smaller than a S2 engine bay.

any ideas folks on how to go about plumbing in both systems into the car?

i suppose i'll need to branch 2 top hoses and 2 bottom hoses that connect to the top of the intercoolers and the bottom and likewise for the chargecooler unit.
