Default rear disc conversion, help???

just recently got all the bits and pieces for the rear disc conversion on my escort mk4 cab, put it all together bleed the brakes up all was going well untill i went to put the wheels back on the wheel nuts dont seem to go in far enough i can get the thread ok and tighten them up ish but any thing over 80nm rounds the thread off as i dont think they go in enough. the old rear drum was about 5mm thick but the new discs (sierra cosy) are about half inch thick so obviously the bolt does not go in as far as it did. have i got the right wheel bolts for my car? (wheel bolts come with the wheels i bought) has anyone had this prob? thanks in advance

never heard of that, but you'll kill yourself the first time you stand on the brakes unless you fit a bias valve....it's like stopping with the handrbake if you've no bias valve and std front brakes!

It sounds like they're the wrong bolts mate. Mine go in really far and have no problems. What wheels did the bolts come with?

the disk is considerably thicker than a drum so the bolts will need to be long enough

went down to my local ford parts dealer told him my problem and showed him the bolt that is on my car and he brought out a wheel bolt reccomended by ford and it was exactly the same size as the bolts on the car!!!!!!! so i decided to go to elites and see what they had and they came up trumps with a longer wheel bolts all 16 bolts for 10 quid brand new cant go wrong! the only thing is, is that people doing this rear disc conversion is only useing the standard wheel bolt when putting the wheels back on!!!! now i know that the bolts do fit and feel solid but when you think about it you are limiting the bolt being screwed into the hub to the required length by ford because of the now so bulky rear disc. sounds abit dangerous to me i dont think fords done this for nothing. think some people may wanna consider buying new bolts only a tenner for safety and piece of mind.

that makes alot of sense doing that as you have no probs its just that what you`ve just said is not mentioned on the process of doing the rear disc conversion. it should really be pointed out either studing or longer bolts to hold the wheel proper.

but alot of peeps already have the stud conversion

get a 12.5mm drill bit and a set of new studs from ford,

get all front studs not front and rear as rears are shorter and desigined to work with drums

or go brakes yard and bang them out a newer ford that's what i did.

used std bolts when i did my conversion and had no trouble with them at all.

then i got a full set of escort cosworth studs from ford and fitted them, and never had any probs with rear locking up at any time/use

yer i put the standard bolts in the wheel and didn`t have no probs either only when i decided to tighten them right up i noticed a prob, then had a look at the back of the hub carrier where the wheel bolts go in and noticed that the bolts didnt go all the way through like they did before.
yer my brakes dont lock up at the rear either have no brake travel at all and the brakes are really responsive, weird! must be a cab thing?????
