Always a good idea to let the car warm up before booting it around mate (temp gauge in normal, or say after 15mins of normal driving IMO)!
If it's a S1 let it cool down for 2 mins i'd say, if it's a S2 then about 1 min.
Thats what i'd do anyway, i'm sure other people will give you there opinions too!

i get in my rs turn the key and set off....not above 3k till warm tho, turbo timer sorts itself out after, normally 30-40seconds if not driven hard, or 2-3 mins if just been revved..

Better long term to warm up a little before caning it, and likewise to let it idle for a min or two but not devastating if you forget now & then ...

oil temp is important here, not water... imho the best thing is oil temp gauge, so when oil temp reach about 80 or 85 degrees celsius you can flor it safely... 85-100 degrees is good oil temp for driving. and I never turn off engne if oil temp is higher than 90 deg c. I think oil temp (measured in sump) is for about 30 degrees lower that temp in bearings... I heard that somewhere...

if i start my car, let it idle for about 5-10 mins then drive steady for about 15 mins till the oil is nice and warm, then let it idle for about 2-3 mins before i turn it off, is that good or bad for the engine ?
its a EFI RSturbo engine

get in and drive the thing, sitting idling won't get it warm quickly.
just don't go balls out on the throttle till temp is up and oil has got warm at least.
as for coolin gdown, don't keep on full throttle just before you park up, otherwise leave standiung for a couple of minute, i tend to take it easy about a minute from home or wherever and that does the trick.

I usually go out to mine about 12-1 in the monring when it's really cold and bring it some coco and tuck it in, when it's hot i usually give it a choc ice and a cold drink and make sure it's well ventillated.
On a serious note, just a repeat of above, run car at limited rpm until temp guage is at normal operating temp (assuming you have no other gauges) which will make sure oil is in it's best condition, same for cooling down, as above i usually run for 1-2 mins, you can get turbo timers that calculate times at idle dependant on oil/engine temp after a run, seen these tun for 5 mins, but really depends on the model. Bottom line not an exact science if you don't have all the guages but as long as you make half an effort at both ends of the temperature spectrum your off to a good start.
