Amal valve problem
Hi. My original s2 has been running poorly. Its been hesitant on acceleration ,sometimes doesnt start, and doesnt seem to boost at all.
Ive replaced the fuel pump relay and the starting is fine now. Also doesnt seem to hesitate so much but doesnt seem to boost at all.
Im going to put a boost gauge on it soon but cant feel no turbo boost. I can hear the funny high pitched electronic noise (i think its the wastegate) but no increase in power. Like it runs like a n/a 1.6.Ive checked all the boost hoses for leaks and they are ok. Ive tried turning the ignition on (not engine running but all lights) and unplugged the amal valve and put it back on but there is no clicking noise so does this mean it is faulty?
Can i bypass it to check the actuator is ok? Can I bypass with a bleed valve (id make sure it wont run anymore than 8psi as isnt chipped)?
The car is completely standard and has done about 130k.

I remmember my problems and questions about amal valve
ok..if you have faulty amal valve you will have only about 4 psi of boost.
yes you can check actuator, but need bleed valve (boost controler) or you can simply pull out hose from turbo (turbo-actuator hose) and suck air with mouth and make little vaacum on actuator, it must hold vacum about 20 seconds...
I think it is amal valve making problems here... so just try run with it , and after that, dissconect power from amal valve (dont remove hoses for air) and if there is no diference it is knackered.

Ignore the above. I plumbed in a cheap boost gauge. With the amal valve plugged in it was running about 4psi. With it unplugged no change. I then measured the voltage going into the amal valve and it was about 5v. A bit of fault finding and i found it was a dodgy earth to it. I rewired a new earth to it and now it clicks fine. The car now boosts about 8-10psi which i guess is standard (everything is standard). Is it ok to leave this earth connected now as it seems to run ok with it? Where is the earth in the loom to the amal valve coming from as id like to sort the wiring properly not just bypass it.
Only thing left with my car now is the hesitation but i will post a new topic.

just had a look on wiring diagram for you... (series 2 turbo)
the brown and green wire goes to pin 6 (numbered 6) on the ecu which is the 3rd one from the end but check for the number 6 on ecu, check the contenuety on that from the plug, also the black wire (earth) from wot i can make out goes to the fuse box then to pin 15 on your fuel pump relay.
hope this helps.
