Default fix or another engine?

bit of a problem! my h/g and clutch has gone on my s1 and after a few garage quotes of £700-£750 im wondering (alot!) if its realy worth spending the money on a 110k engine or would it be better to go for a used/rebuilt unit and just pay to hav it changed? just after your opinions please!
