I notice your signature now states the following :

Formerly the Worlds Fastest Escort RS Turbo. 168.84mph!!
Your signature never used to state Formerly which generally means an officially timed Escort has now gone faster.

What car was this and what speed did it do and where ?

Bet this car was not running a CVH though

Most people looking for high power seem to be doing Zetec's, Duratec's or ZVH's these days.. So I naturally expected it to be one of these

I will post it because the 'camp' that it came from has already.

Oli did 173.5mph with his 1700CVH.

He has the record fair and square.

Yeah. I'm not entirely disappointed with my cars performance on that day, knowing that I only really had one run which was intended on being a sighting lap really.

I wish I could give you all the details. I can tell you this much though, at 168mph, I was at around 6600rpm, I can easily rev to 7200 perhaps even 7400.

Not that I expect to achieve the 183mph that my gearing would make at 7400rpm. Aerodynamics will certainly have an effect.

I think 2008 will show many new records as the increase in ford tuning over the last couple of years for all models has escalated massively.

I was just bantering when I said about Oli's being 1700cc, it is as far as I know as it has big pistons from what Karl told me. However, mine has 80.5mm pistons, so it could be argued that mine is around 1620cc or whatever. He beat me fair and square.

However, I just wish I could have finished that second run, I know it was a good one.

All that said, with regards to the above, there is no way on gods green earth that 185mph will be happening in a Mk4 Escort that I drive. 170mph is bad enough. Remember we are very close now top speed wise to where the Cossie's were only 5 years ago or so and I don't feel that the RST is a good idea to go any faster.

Besides which, to do 185mph in a Zetec equipped RST really should be fairly easily achievable, infact, Sunny and/or Paul J will do it, I know that. I don't think its possible in a CVH, as you would need 500+bhp and that just ain't gonna happen from a 1600CVH.

would a bit of laughting gas not give you a bit of extra power needed for the 185mph

1. I wouldn't use NOS.
2. Once you get to where we are in Top Speed, you need SO SO much more power to go even a little faster.

It's quite unbelievable that we (the RST boys) have raised the bar from the 150mph that we achieved 4 or 5 years ago, to where we are now and I am fairly sure that 185mph from a CVH just won't happen, its an unrealistic target IMO. I'd be over-the-moon with 175mph to be honest, infact 170mph was pretty special I think.

so even with like a 100 shot like sas has got wouldnt make much difference at all

plus it would neet to be a pretty solid spec like wire rung and all

you say ur car geared for 181mph ?
what box u using is it staright cut ?

Thing is, to make an engine strong enough for 350bhp, its not really strong enough then to take a 100 shot IMO.

Wire-rining is a little bit old school too, in my opinion.

My car is geared for 183mph and no its not straight cut. No-one makes a proper gearbox for the RST with ratios that will go fast enough for me (without having to rev it to 8500rpm!!)

Yes, the CVH crank is strong.

It's not so much whats weak as making a 1600cc engine spool a turbo that'd be big enough to make more power than that!!

either way personalllly i dont think it matters who holds what record , im more eccited that theres still people pushing the boundaries of what can be don with the rst's and the cvh engine

christian , if u feel like ur coming to the limits of your engine , would u ever consider going zvh or zetec ??

not for power ( you got enough lol ) more to keep ur head busy and devlope a new engine and see what apt can do with a zvh ??

btw what u think u could get out of a zvh

I am only interested in the CVH to be honest. I know that by removing all the key parts (turbo, injectors, ECU etc etc), I have the bits for a BIG power Zetec 16v, but for me its not as exciting as tuning the original engine that my car rolled out of the factory with. I mean THE orignal engine, still with its original unmachined crank.

I have no intention of doing a ZVH either, in my opinion (and it is my opinion), there are some real dead ends in that conversion, like availability of a decent head-gasket. Remember thats my personal opinion.

I don't want to be the one to find the Aerodynamic limit of the Escort body and put it onto its roof.

When I have had enough of the good old CVH, I will move onto something TOTALLY different, without a Ford badge. It probably won't be something unusual either, I'm feeling drawn to a 'sensible' fast-road car, like a Clio Trophy.
