If its been built by a reputable company there should be a I.D plate behind the "snail" giving an id number which you can ring the company and they will tell you what spec it is. It is only the internals that get changed so no visable changes so turbo technics told me

take the turbo elbo off and you can tell if the exhaust blades have been cut back.

G.B. turbosolutions (iirc his username) pointed this out on another thread on GD, might be worth a pm

As far as im aware, a Standard T3 just says Garrett on it, but hybrid ones can say just Garrett aswell, and some say AiResearch.

Its common to have a standard housing machined to accept a cossie compressor. Ive got a stage 3 in the garage thats got a cossie compressor with a standard housing.

It says AiResearch on my s1 boosted really strong & hard but some one told me that is a standard one. He said if it has AiResearch on any T3 turbo its standard, is this true or is he blagging me cuz he wants it for £50.00

AirResearch is old series of Garrett turbochargers... Now you have a new series of GT Garrett turbochargers...

And ford escort rst have a T03 turbocharger not just a " T3 " turbo
